I don't understand how huff couldn't get a better job.

I know Marshall wouldn't extend him, and I heard about some head butting between he and administration over NIL, but there has to be something else. I've heard the fanbase is happy he's gone, and this is after leading them to the SBC title. Something seems fishy here.

How often do you see guys take a job in the same conference at the G5 level?
Interesting move.

I've heard that there are issues with the administration, the fans don't really want him, his wife doesn't like Huntington, Southern Miss is offering him more money. I don't know how many of these are true. As a Southern Miss fan, I just want to be able to have hope that Southern Miss can win 6 games in a season at some point in the near-future.

ETA: Sky-high expectations, I know.

This is by far the best hire USM could’ve made in terms of their options. Absolutely stoked for this as a USM alum, basically Huff wanted to leave Marshall due to admin and his family not loving Huntington. Hattiesburg is a great town, welcome to it Charles.

Better hope the Maryland job doesn't open.

Manny Diaz was at Temple for 18 days before leaving. Does Huff make it that long in Hattiesburg?

I agree, he is a good coach.

Unless there was some sort of shady shite going on (not sure how anything can be "illegal" per the NCAA these days other than some sort of actual felony), then Marshall's AD has to be an absolute bonehead.
I hope Huff does well at Southern Miss to shove it in Marshall administration's face, though hopefully not well enough to beat us.

Those jobs seem the exact same.

According to some posters on here Huffs family wasn't happy in West Virginia.

Southern Miss hit absolute rock bottom this season. The bar is so low 4-5 wins next year at USM will have fans going all in for Huff and his program.

Welcome to the Will Hall experience. It was the worst time you never want to have again

Good coach, but apparently abrasive as hell. Have some friends that are PSU fans and said that his ceiling was pretty low there even though he was a RB coach for several years, because of butting heads with the coaching staff and others in the program. Naturally, this is anecdotal, but maybe makes sense.
