Remember when they were penalized in 2017 by playing Georgia twice, a team they beat 40-17 at home before proceeding to also beat Bama by double digits at home? They were #2 going into the SECG with nothing to gain by playing Georgia again, and they got trounced 28-7 and lost everything.

Auburn was punished for playing in that game. I think it's fair to think SMU should fall somewhat as well because they have not beaten good teams, and I give Alabama credit for going to Wisconsin, beating Georgia, and also beating my team worse than I can remember in any game

**Sorry, mods, I meant to put this on SECRant if it could be moved

Nah leave it here.

I don’t think these folks know SMU hasn’t beaten anyone in the top….30? 40?

What’s a name have to do with beating nobody with a pulse?

It matters to the committee because it's all about money at the end of the day.

I think about this year a lot. Losses to Clemson and LsU and finished the regular season with the best outcome you could have hoped for. Beating UGa and Bama who go on to the national title game was brutal.

Proving you have the ability to beat a real football team hopefully matters to the committee as well.

A good point was made when you're comparing two non-conf champions with no common opponents, who has the better SOS? It's Bama

It is funny watching the media now with this bold claim of "you can't punish a team for playing the extra game".

Well, in the past 15 years, you've punished teams that played the extra game and won it....

It happened when only two teams could make it, and it happened what, 4 four times when 4 teams could make it?

Every time it was to benefit one specific program.

This is hilarious to watch.

Everyone knows what is going to happen.

That's the benefit of a 12-team playoff. If we were in a 12-team playoff in 2017, Auburn is in.

How does screwing SMU this year benefit teams that were screwed in the past? It doesn't.

This is another narrative I keep seeing as well among the media. "Well because we fricked over Tier 2 teams for nearly two decades now, that justifies us having 12 teams so we can keep fricking over Tier 2 teams in the exact same manner".

Of course it doesn't benefit Auburn now. We can't change the past. Nothing can. We can only make sure it doesn't have to happen again.

The CFB committee picks the teams in the playoff not the “media”

Also the ability to lose to Vanderbilt and get embarrassed by a terrible Oklahoma.
