Meat Grinder Attachment (KitchenAid)

I had an old 1 HP stand alone grinder I’d gotten from my Dad that finally crapped out, and I want to replace it. Anyone here have experience with the KitchenAid grinding attachment? I like that it doesn’t take up as much space, but only if I’m not going to give up a ton of functionality and durability in the trade.

it works if you are making one or two batches. Ours is gathering dust LOL
you’ll want a better plunger and you have to go slow. Dice and freeze the meat first. It if gets too hot let it cool down. Don’t expect butcher shop production

We make 15-20 lbs of deer sausage a year with one. Cube, freeze, then thaw just a bit but not all the way. Motor will get warm, you'll need to take breaks. Works fine for us. I've done cased sausage before with it, it's fine. We usually do bulk breakfast sausage these days so 1 fewer step.

I’ve looked into this recently.
The grinder is good for small batches, but the actual sausage making functionality leaves a lot to be desired.
Look for 3rd party grinder attachements for stainless steel parts as opposed to plastic.

This would be a dealbreaker for me, then. One of the main things I do with my grinder is make sausage and mix and extrude filling for a huge batch of Italian fig cookies every year.

I have one that I use for small amounts of meat. Works well when I want to make a couple lbs of breakfast sausage. It's pretty slow so when I'm grinding deer or briskets I take out my 1 hp.

Don’t buy the plastic one, go for the stainless.

Like BlackCoffee said, look around for SmokeHouse Chef all stainless. They’re around $100 maybe a little more but infinitely better quality. I only use mine for small (1-2#) jobs because it heats up pretty quickly which can cause fat smearing which negatively affects texture of sausage.
