I would say it’s appropriately rated. Lived there a few years ago and it’s consistently rated top places to live in the south.

How 'bout Possum Snout, GA? They ruined its chances for recognition of its greatness when it was renamed Tallapoosa.

i freaking love Tyler. It's grown too much, but kept most of what makes it great.

Greenville and Huntsville pop up a lot.
I think it's true for Greenville although you get enough acclaim and it's hard to be underrated. I think it's not so true for Huntsville. I think it's completely fine, but unremarkable.
Charlotte is the bigger version of Huntsville, IMO.
There are ultimately very few underrated cities in the South. There is just too much attention on this region for anything to legitimately fly under the radar.

Winston-Salem, NC
It's not as nice as Raleigh or Charlotte, but when considering how they have completely revamped a city that used to be run by tobacco into a modern city, it's impressive.

Monroe, La
i hated my time there but i was in my 20s and just going to work, gym and the pickle barrel
Good schools, cheap and punches above its weight in terms of food. Really not a bad place to live
