Why didn’t we get this Winston with the Saints? Was he handcuffed?

Not crazy about the 2 pick 6’s and the INT’s, but when he was with the Saints it felt like he was playing with both hands tied behind his back. I love him as a person and the team loved him. I wish it could have worked out for him here.
Was he just being held down to avoid the mistakes he inevitably makes?

Because Pete didn’t know how to call an offense for anyone but Drew. He tried to make Winston do the one thing he’s terrible at, accurate check downs

He flourished in 2021 with us before injury. I wish we could have got a full season with him that year. 14td 3int and a QB rating of 102.8

Our defense was pretty close to elite then. SP kept him on a tight leash and not take the chances he like to take. When you have a great defense, you can get away with it.
Now you seeing vintage Jameis.

I was told he wouldn't do that anymore because he got Lasik.
This is what you get with Winston. You either have to handcuff him and get meh results or unleash him.
Basically.....either your offense gets no touchdowns or everyone gets touchdowns.
ETA: Great personality though. Love his candid on-camera moments. I think you'll see him doing podcasts or something after he retires.

Before he fricked up his knee in the TB game, he was playing very well for the Saints. Saints would have been just fine with him as the QB imho.

We got exactly that with Carr in 2023

He would have been a good cheap bridge till we found a long term answer. Carr was a mistake....

I think Payton was scared to death of exactly that game Monday which is basically a microcosm of his last year in Tampa. he threw for 5000 yards and 33 TDs but 30 int, iirc they lost 2 games by less than 7 when he had a pick 6 (1 for sure against the Texans).
