Is a transfer portal class ranking more important than a high school class ranking?

At this point I think it is. These kids arent committed to anything but money and you are seeing more and more impact players coming from the portal and helping teams get over the top. (Also speaking of impact players the last 3 Heisman winners have came from the transfer portal). It seems like a significant amount of these top high school recruits are leaving after year one at their schools if they arent seeing the field or getting the playing time they want. I feel like a top 8 HS recruiting class and top 5 portal class is going to be just fine for LSU.

He doesn't do well recruiting HS kids. You have to do both well nowadays.

Oregon, Texas, Ohio St, and Indiana all went big in to the portal I believe just off the top of my head. So cant just throw Ole Miss out there. There has been success in it.

Look I hate ole piss as much as the next guy, but they have just as an impressive resume as Bama to still be in the chase, so technically he has put up enough with his transfers to be playoff bound. Atleast more than Kelly did for us with his process of building through hs

NOT a Brian Kelly defender. But he did just get a top 8 recruiting class. If he can load up in the portal. Id love to see how next year plays out. But next year is boom or bust obviously.

Portal has got to fill holes. Can’t rely on freshmen to do it.

Seems like if you can get your program rolling it's best to recruit high schoolers that can be sufficient enough or good in the future, and portal players for immediate needs.
I think it's clear now that you can't just load up on one position because it's convenient and leave another position empty. You should be bringing in new bodies at every position on offense and defense in every single class, because you're going to lose from every single position in the offseason, via draft or portal.

Technically, this is correct, but didn't Cignetti just bring all his JMU players with him to Indiana?
It's wild they gave him that big extension already without seeing what he can do without his old players first.

imagine if Lane didn't go all in on the portal . The shite show that would've been .

Neither ranking is important. What’s important is that you get quality players who will provide depth and success.

Class rankings don’t matter on either side - your roster does. Regardless of ranking, you need a two-deep with talent and no holes.

All known evidence shows this to be false, and ridiculous.

You need both. You have to be able to get high school kids that you can develop and also instant impact players out of the portal. They’re equally important.

In my opinion - transfer portal is more important to the immediate future, the upcoming year, but the high school class and retention of best players in high school recruiting is more important to the long-term health of the program.
I also think we will start to see the effects of overpaying players in both scenarios. Kids coming in making 3 and 4 times what the guys who've been there for a couple of years already.....stuff like that causes problems. Human nature.

You always need a good HS class, you use the portal depending on where the gaps are.
Some schools seem to prioritize the portal over HS recruiting (Colorado, SMU, etc)

Didn't realize having a class rated 30th, 17th, 22nd, 20th and 15th was elite
I'll give you some line in this class being 15th but the rest can't even be considered good.

Not sure where you got those rankings, but LSU has been in the top 10 for the past 3 years.
