Something bothered me on a recent field trip to DC with the kids

Recently took a field trip to DC with some school kids, just a couple of days to tour the Capitol and see some museums. We also got to visit Arlington, which is always humbling and powerful.
Unfortunately, once we got to the Capitol building and the Smithsonians, I began to notice just how much "woke" stuff is crammed in there now. It was so disappointing to walk into the crypt and see the empty place where Robert E Lee's statue stood for over a century and hear the tour guide talk about how it'll be replaced by a civil rights activist. Then we went on to Statuary Hall, where a significant number of the statues, especially the more recent ones, are of civil rights activists, women, and people of color.
I'm not a big statues guy, it's certainly not something I lose sleep over. However, the tour guide spent what I felt was an inordinate amount of time explaining those folks' "contributions" to America, at the expense of many of the other military heroes, statesmen, and founding fathers. This hyper focus on the negative bothered me. The tour guide was careful to point out anything that seemed negative toward America and gloss over American exceptionalism and the tremendous men that made this nation what it was. "Don't pass up a chance to get close to the Martin Luther King statue!" but never a mention of the Ronald Reagan statue containing pieces of the Berlin wall. "Rosa Parks is right over here!" but no time to point out the amazingly lifelike sculpture of Eisenhower in the Rotunda.
I could go on, because it certainly didn't stop there. When we went over to the Library of Congress, it was more of the same. Each place was quick to apologize for America and slow to acknowledge any hint of American exceptionalism.
It may not matter in the grand scheme of things, but the millions of people, especially school kids, that tour the Capitol ought to leave there with a sense of awe for the greatness of this wonderful nation, not another lesson in the evils of the white American patriarchy.
Ok, rant over.

DEI employees. No better than the protesters constantly camped around the White House.

They're replacing our history before our very eyes. It's part of the whole "unburdened by what has been." Part of the Marxist takeover, a complete removal of culture and history in order to install the appropriate propaganda to control/brainwash us lemmings. You have every right to be offended and paranoid and should be. It is a symptom of the evil in charge currently.

Goombaw,
Please send a copy of your rant to Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, Elon Musk, Dan Bogino, your Senators and your Representative.
Get the word out. Please. It IS worth your time to speak out, proudly.

I actually had already planned to. I'll try to make it a little more professional-sounding, but I really think someone needs to do something and try to turn the tide back in the other direction.

Conquers destroy the monuments of the people they conquer.

Send to Steve Bannon, he’ll talk about it

That is shameful.
But what to expect for an admin that built an enormous museum for black history but not one for white, native american, asian, or hispanic?
Natural history, last time I visited they had a display of things left at the vietnam memorial. I noticed some people looking at one display, and they were visibly moved, wondered what it was.
A six pack of Schlitz, four unopened, two empty and bent, with a note: "Pete, promised when we got stateside we would have a beer together.....promise made promise kept".

We have so much work to do to restore this nation. Don’t get complacent because you think Trump winning will solve everything. There is no way the damage inflicted over the last 40 years can be resolved in the next 4 years.

Meanwhile the Homeless situation in DC is significantly worse than the past.

After previously living there for several years I toured with my grandson in 2016. It coincided with the weekend opening of the African American Museum. EVERY tour and exhibition in the metro area was a big “Apology Tour”. The only exception that I recall was the Catholic Basilica of the National Shrine. Thank God.

The classical portrait gallery at the M./fine art is uncontaminated by PC, I guess bc they haven't yet fabricated their narrative that those incredible artists were actually middle aged black lesbians.

Its really nefarious because their aim is to indoctrinate children

At least Trump’s animatronic will take center stage again at Disney’s Hall Of Presidents. It was sad to go and see Biden’s animatronic speak more eloquently when off-promoter than the real thing.

Were you on the tour with the north shore kids that took over my flight back to LA for thanksgiving
flew out of DCA to MSY Monday night.
It was like half the plane were this school trip.
ETA: I went on that same tour a year ago. Had an older tour guide. She talked way more about Robert E Lee and in a flattering light surprisingly. It depends on your tour guide. That statue is now in the Virginia Museum in Richmond in the original battle abbey room surrounded by massive confederate frescos. They have “recontextualized” the wording of the plaques below them, but the paintings themselves are incredible. Absolutely massive. My favorite one is the massive one of Lee and all of his generals surveying the battlefield.
Also, there’s still a statue of Jefferson Davis in statuary hall. As well as Alexander Stevens. From Mississippi and Georgias donations. Unsurprisingly it’s the progressive states that donate the woke statues. VA just happened to have its only Democratic trifecta in decades from 2019-2021 and removed it during the summer of love in 2020 otherwise it would still be there. Weirdly, California has Reagan and a catholic priest for their two statues.
My favorites are Jefferson and Washington at the entrance to the rotunda. Also the massive murals of the nations founding. Fun fact the baptism of Pocahontas was done by the first rector of the church I just got married in. Was elated to see that represented so prominently in the Capitol.
