Aaron Brooks Career Retrospective

I’ve always had a good dose of nostalgia when it comes to Aaron Brooks. The very first year I started watching the Saints and became a fan was the year I turned 12, in 2000. We all remember that year well, first playoff victory! Jeff Blake was the starter and when he went down, Aaron Brooks took over and led us to the playoffs and the thrilling win over the Rams.
I know in the following seasons, Brooks was inconsistent in his play. He would have these great games and then play poorly in others. This was the hallmark of the Jim Haslett years. 8-8 and 7-9 type of seasons.
Brooks had great weapons in receivers like Joe Horn and Donté Stallworth. He had a great running back like Deuce to hand off to. Still, he could never lead us back to the playoffs after that first season.
TOTAL SAINTS STATS
• Total passing yards: 19,156
• Touchdowns: 120
• Interceptions: 84
• Completion percentage: 56.4%
• Passer rating: 79.7
2. Rushing Stats:
• Total rushing yards: 1,410
• Rushing touchdowns: 13
Overall, I feel like Brooks had the skills, but lacked what his successor brought to the table, namely leadership. Comparing any QB to Drew Brees is tough, but Brooks was still good enough to keep the Saints from being bottom dwellers in his years there. He helped the Saints achieve a huge milestone with that first playoff win, so I think we’ll always be grateful for that.

Dude had a cannon, but he clearly wasn’t committed to being great.

I agree to a point. I think his biggest issue was accuracy. He could make all the throws just not consistently.

He had some big moments when there wasn’t many big moments for a long long time is the best way I can sum it up

Aaron Brooks was the non-race-baiting and actually Black version of Colin Kaepernick. He came out of nowhere, had no film, and as a result found success because the QB in front of him put him in the position to succeed.
When they had to do it on their own, it was obvious that they were incapable.

Think back to contracts then, his "Big" contract was what 6 years 36 million for the saints.

That contract made him extremely happy, that's why he smiled after every fricking interception lol

Poor guy thought he was Willie Beaman.
However, that first playoff win was magical for everyone that was tired of having pretty good saints teams only left to meet some dominant NFC teams in the 1st round.

It was his head getting twisted that led to the Kyle Turley helmet toss.
Great era. Haslett ranting about the rams’ trick plays, horn sleeping with the roaf’s wife, La’Roi glover and Sammy Knight being awesome, and the single greatest moment of my life when Milne fell on the ball.

Drew Brees leading the way for Tim Dwight on the reverse in that highlight.
Tim Dwight came to San Diego as part of the trade where atlanta moved up in the draft to pick Michael Vick #1 overall and Brees feel to the 1st pick of the second round.
Michael Vick is cousins with Aaron Brooks.
Aaron Brooks, Michael Vick and Mike Tomlin are all from Newport News, Virginia.
Mike Tomlin went to Denbigh High School in Newport News which is also where Antoine Bethea went to high school.
Antoine Bethea Was the starting safety for the Indianapolis Colts in 2009.
The Colts lost the 2009 Super Bowl to the Saints who were quarterbacked by…Drew Brees!
It’s all connected!
