Anyone find themselves often wondering why you can’t have more moments of perspective in life. I would do anything to have a more consistent state of mind that is chasing kindness, loving others, forgetting about whatever pointless narrative is filling my headspace that particular moment/day. The moments of clarity come when reading a book/watching a movie/hearing a story about things that move the heart. Life can be going just fine but there is still something interfering with being the person you really want to be. I often think of how people reflect on their lives when they are at the end of the road. Most people seem to have similar regrets of living in some sort of selfish state too often through life. Anyone ever had a pivotal shift that changed your life? Does it have to be a rock bottom/tragedy moment? I know…thinking this way is exhibit A of being too much in my head

Allowing yourself to be sexually assaulted by a fat chick is a great way to recalibrate to reality

Or a fleshlight

You’d have to exit the rat race and move to Europe

There is a book I have read a few times, “The Power of Now”. It walks you through it. Takes practice, but it works.

Getting raped by a fat chick or dude would no doubt generate perspective but that coincides w my rock bottom/tragedy moment I’d prefer to avoid

It gets depressing when it happens every night, though

Ok. Fine.

You can’t separate “being in the moment” and “being in your head”

They are the same thing.

The difference is whether you are stuck on thinking of yourself or the life around you, your “dreams” or actively executing “steps that progress your journey” to your dreams.

Living in the moment creates more memories while being in your head is living in the past or future mentally.

We are all “in our heads” the question is whether our heads are focused on the past, present, or future. People who focus only on the present or usually pretty shallow. People who focus more on the past or wiser but somewhat stunted. People who focus on the future are usually underachieving dreamers.

The trick is to balance the three: past for wisdom and thankfulness, the present for enjoyment of life and the active work toward the journey into the future, and the future for goal setting.

Live in your head, just the right way.

I struggle with this too. Thinking about the past or worried about the future. I think it’s common.

Start with the book "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass and go from there.

I’m pretty in the moment. Which causes problems for me with people who enjoy discussing the past. It’s not likely that I even remember specifics beyond the last day or so.

Go back to the place that you picked up the term “ moment of clarity “. There you learn to get out of yourself.

This is the exact purpose of meditation. It works. Stop contemplating life and just live it.
