I think the current tailgate scene plays a massive role in fans leaving early

I honestly think the problem is people are so damn wasted now they are hungover and ready to go during the game

Roughly 10 years ago or so tailgating became bigger than the game for lsu.

Yes tailgating has always been awesome, but in the last decade or so it has become THE event. People are out there all day drinking and by game time it’s just too much

I’m not throwing stones because I was there 5-10 years ago. I noticed now even though im almost 40 I find it easy to stay the entire game now because im not on all day bender anymore

Need to be more disciplined where they can enjoy the event they came for. Plus it helps everyone around them enjoy it more too.

You’re overthinking it. It’s the traffic

Agreed. It’s the traffic.

LSU needs great hotels and restaurants within walking distance to Tiger Stadium

People will pay for it to enjoy the “weekend”

But since it’s not available they have to think about the commute time in to the game and the commune home being hungry tired and probably intoxicated?

If I was a billionaire this is how I would help LSU , build these hotels and restaurants and provide the parking and incredible resort like environments around the stadium and campus

Also introduce golf cart shuttles on game day

Other schools do it

This is where LSU is behind

They don’t want to confront this fact. Part of it is definitely what you’re saying in the OP. Another part is people are too soft to sit in the same traffic that’s always been there

I would agree that the tailgate is the bigger event than the game

And for the students, the tailgate and the after-party is bigger

And both of those are contributing factors to people leaving

Everyone here acts like traffic is only a problem at LSU. Many other schools
are in small college towns with 1 or 2 highways in and out and not enough hotel occupancy to have everyone stay the night.

Every school has traffic and lsu has always had traffic as well

What is unique is just how freaking massive our tailgating is now

And how long it is now

I think what’s most unique is LSU plays most of their games at night. More people would stay if it didn’t mean getting home past midnight.

I’m almost 40 and went to every single lsu game from 1989-1994. Home and away

And the tailgating in the last decade and change is far far far bigger than ever. It’s not debatable

People leave early because they tailgate at the crack of dawn and because leaving the campus is worse than evacuating for a major hurricane.
If LSU could fix the traffic after the game, people wouldn’t feel the need to leave at the start of the 4th.

They go out tailgate all day. Finally get into the stadium at 6:30.
Stay for 3-4 hours then walk to their car and sit for another 2-3 hours.
It’s awful.

It’s pretty much social media fans. Go to the tailgate, post pics, go to the game, post pics, not really care about the game or LSU then go home because they are bored.

Leave the game go back to the tail gate have a few pops that don’t cost 9$ watch it on tv? Fire up the grill and eat while the traffic is bad? Nooooooooooooo

I disagree. I think tailgating in the 2003-2015 were much bigger than it is now. Tailgating took a hit when almost all on campus parking lots became pay lots. Especially on Nicholson. Now days, it’s just a sidewalk.

Bruh, people been wasted in TS for over a century.

Just like our football team though, the fans are just as soft now and can't handle their liquor as much.

The people I saw leaving the game last night were the lightly interested social fans. They were all sober to me. I saw so many middle age couples get up as some random time in the game, give a few hugs to friends, and some waves, and walts on out like nothing was going on.

The one that got me though was the young couple with two small kids that left in the first quarter... why even try? And the kids were not upset or misbehaving.
