Why wouldn’t Kelly just pony up the difference to keep Underwood ??

Of course this would have to be done “under the table” (move money around in the NIL/ boosters funds. Instead of buying a new recovered center let the boosters cover that etc) but with a 100 million dollar contract why not just cover the 6 million difference to give yourself the best chance of winning while at LSU. Seems like an investment to me. Easy for me to say since it’s not my money lol but I’m legitimately asking why not…??

Because he was never coming to LSU. It was just a ploy to get Michigan to give him a ridiculous amount of money and they did.

It's a fair point since he came here to win a title. He maximizes the next 3 seasons of his yr 4-6 to win it. Give up 1.5mm/ yr to win that title and be considered a great with his multiple level titles, win totals. Etc.

Once word got out that UM was going to play 3 mil a year it was over and. As I LSU fan I am okay with it.

So you think if lsu matched he wouldn’t have came? Not sure I believe that. If this was really just a ploy to get the bag from Michigan why not choose another school to get the number as high as possible. It’s known lsu isn’t a top spender in the NIL game. Why not pretend to want to go to Oregon or Ohio state and get a 10 million dollar bag to make Michigan go to 20?? Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Doesn’t matter what you believe. If we had matched, Michigan would have increased. They were NOT going to be outbid on this kid. He was always going to Michigan. He just used us to leverage more money from Michigan.

So it only matters what you believe. Got it. I think saying he never had any intentions of coming to lsu is a coping mechanisms by lsu fan and I get it, if that helps you sleep at night then no harm in it.

This is false. Underwood was recruited by every university in the country. Nobody was prying him from LSU. The fact it took Michigan to double up LSU's number just to get him tells you right there you're wrong. It's desperation on their party and life changing money for Underwood. You can't blame him.

At some point, it’s just not worth it. You are wanting to pay 10 million for someone that’s never played in college? He could end up being football Jesus or he could be Tyrod Taylor. Remember Gunner Keil? Yeah me neither. How’s the locker room going to react when he is the highest paid player in the room but isn’t the reason they are winning?
There is a lot more to it than just finding the money to pay him. Plus it’s not like LSU is devoid of talent at the position. There are 3 4 star or better players on the roster right now.

They never had the chance. They learned via Twitter.

If he goes to high school right down the street from them and it took $12 million to get him to even consider going there, then it says a whole lot about him…and the university too

Not true.

I really can’t hate him. That amount of money would be crazy to pass up. Financial security at 17 years old

You dislike, hate is too strong an emotion over a hs football recruit, him because he's a liar not because he took the money. He's the one that consistently said it wasn't about the money. He lied then tucked and ran instead of being a man, that's on his prick father, and at least owning his lies.
I would've taken the money too.

It sucks that he did that, but it’s also the reason they bid so high. It probably wasn’t about the money until the number being offered kept going up

I eager to see how poorly UM develops Underwood. As well all know, between LSU and Michigan, Michigan has been putting day one starting stud QBs in the NFL lately.

Yeah, it's better for the sport if Underwood never develops, frankly.
