yet it still takes me 8 weeks to get an appointment and even then its over a video scren with someone out of state. then another week to get meds in the mail and 4-6 weeks to get anything like a tens unit for my shoulder.

This is actually a great comment and highlights a problem we're going to have with DOGE. They are mining things like GAO and CBO reports and summary statements. We can't do this with a shotgun blast approach. We need scalpels, not sledge hammers.
Of the money listed in that post, about $128B is for Veteran issues, and virtually all of that is tied to the Veterans' Health Care Eligibility Reform Act of 1996, which is to cover funding of health care for service connected issues and provide funding so there is a backstop when Veterans are unable to afford medical care, to include nursing home care. The authorization for that Act expired, but the need did not. If Elon and Vivek think they can just mine these reports and start swinging a sledge hammer at the budget, it's going to produce a disaster. This will not be as easy as they think it will be. I don't think they truly understand the degree of laziness, dysfunction, and corruption in DC.
Consulting these reports is ok, but it's far better to look at budget docs. For example, in HHS, the Administration for Children and Families has a budget of about $95B. 11% of that goes to refugee resettlement. This must be cut. That's $10B we can save immediately, or use it for Americans. We could rebuild Maui and clean up East Palestine and still have money left over.

I saw how the VA treated my father in law. That money is not being spent where it should be. Changes need to be made.

That is why the VA should be decentralized and replaced with an insurance program like a Medicare Advantage Plan with 0 to low cost copays and deductibles to see regular doctors and unless it is something special a VA hospital.
But there could be just as much waste, fraud, and abuse in that system since Medical is the new Military spending largess where a 1 cent aspirin costs 20 dollars or more in a hospital.
