Fixed my dryer without a YT video

I'm no Napoleon but I've fixed a couple dryer in my life so I know when it's not heating it's likely the element went bad or maybe the thermostat.
Don't know don't care I just bought a $20 kit on Amazon and it was here the next day before Mrs CAD even knew the dryer was out (sweet Mr cad had thrown a blanket in before she went to bed so it would be warm and cozy and that's when I discovered it and made a quick order at Amazon)
What was it? Not sure because I just swapped the 2 thermostats and the element and it's good as new. Great time to vacuum up all the lint build up with the back off too.
Damn I love me an old mechanical washer and dryer set that is cheap and simple to repair.

Yeah we had a fancy whirlpool go bad and it's one of the newer models (albeit 10 years old) so it's not just a simple mechanical one...Called a tech...essentially paid him to do nothing. I don't even think he knew how to use a meter. I found the troubleshooting book under the main control board and walked through it myself without him. He quoted me a price of like $500 and didn't have it in stock. I went on an appliance website and matched part numbers and had it in 2 days. Plug and play....no issues. It was real easy to see why it didn't work. Relay got fried. Scorch marks and everything. But the tech did show me where all the bolts were. Had I YT'ed it, I would have gotten the same data.

Had to swap out a few on mine before i finally broke down and bought a new one. My advice is to have another 20.00 kit on standby...you only know it's out when you absolutely need to use it.

if you didn't make a youtube video of the repair, you've broken the chain.
eta, similar story for me was my gas furnace at my old house would not ignite. local ac company came out multiple times, trying to change different parts. never worked. fed up, i took off the shroud do look at the wiring and control panel. it looked like there were some burnt spots on the control panel. found the part number, took a picture of where everything was plugged in, took the old one off, installed the new one and replugged in all the wires, boom, ran like a champ. Went to the ac company with all their bills and said i'd pay the first one since it was a call out but after that, i wasn't paying.

quote:Me too. Turned out it was a dryer sheet fooling the contacts. Parts cost - $0.00.

Get used to swapping out that $20 kit on an annual basis. I'm on year 4 and I can do it in my sleep at this point. Like you, I started with a YT video. Samsung can eat shite on the washer and dryer that we have. I buy 2 elements at a time, so I always have a backup.

Had to switch out my heating element a while back. Took it out and the heating wire had a break in it. Bought one off Amazon and replaced it. It's simple to do, but it is annoying because there isn't much room to place your hand in there.

You can also twist those broken heating element wires together and it will be good for a while.
