Who’s going to be in charge of looking into disability fraud?

When I was younger some of my relatives would talk about crazy checks. When I asked them what this was about, they processed to tell me about kids who were diagnosed with various mental issues and receiving disability checks.
Turns out, many of the kids were simply diagnosed with ADHD and were getting qualified for disability checks.
I’ve heard it’s also happens among the adult population as well with those who refuse to work and prefer to stay at home and get checks?
I can’t imagine the dollar amount attached to disability fraud alone.

Moving this and similar giveaways to Social Security was a big part of Bill Clinton's "balanced budget".

The government acknowledges that around 20% of entitlement program funds are defrauded from those systems. Imagine the actual number. I bet it is closer to 40%.

Crazy checks are a way of life in Eastern Kentucky. Those who don’t get them early will go on to plan b, which is a trifecta of work comp disability claims (cumulative trauma, hearing loss, black lung, whatever fits) followed by SSDI.

I’ll bet there is a fair amount of ex- military men and women who do this also.

I’ve never claimed disability because it’s silly how much they throw at you. I think I’m at like 60% and I’m doing just fine in my civilian job

The only thing I’ve “taken” from the VA is my post 9/11 bill which I paid into at the start of my enlistment. Even then I take the minimum hours before it reaches money paid for BAH

Oh man this would really piss off several people I know who voted for trump. This is super common in Oklahoma as well. Especially poor rural areas. It's really the only way they can afford drugs

I work with a handful of vets at the mill and all of them are getting checks. One guy lets his beard grow out to look scruffy for his once a year examination.

There are some pretty robust mechanisms already in place to catch fraud. If you look, you'll see notices from the DOJ on big busts for fraud in this area. But in a system that big, that complicated, and affecting so many people, you will never purge fraud.

I have seen numbers ranging from $50-60B/yr in fraud for Medicare / Medicaid. I've also seen some higher. This Forbes piece says it's around $100B. The CMS budget is about $1.5T each year.

I saw it mentioned that Social Security fraud is lower, at around 0.5% of the Social Security budget.

Would you like to know how much fraud there is under my healthcare plan? It's $0. It's not possible in my plan.

Because of the way govt retirement / health plans are set up, there's an additional $50B or so each year for that cohort in the way of medical costs. With my healthcare plan, that goes to $0.

(My plan does not kick anyone to the curb in order to achieve these things)

It is a scam for sure. Not sure how you fix it without fricking over the good guys. I have a buddy who never deployed and just his back gave out due to bad genetics. 100% disability. You have special warfare who don’t report anything during their time so they can stay active boots on the ground and they’re denied 100% due to them only bringing it up at the end.

Having said that. The ones who take full advantage of this and are perfectly fine are liberals. They’re already not for Trump so frick em

Go watch "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia" and pay particularly close attention to the part where some of the local government officials and lawyers talk about how that entire crazy arse family has a university-level understanding of the Social Security system and State Disability systems. Generations of that single family have figured out how to maximize their income from government.

Are there any whistleblowers who reveal this stuff? This law firm says that they should be protected, but I don't know.

Perhaps we need to make the names public - and eliminate their access to certain areas - do we want mentally ill people purchasing guns?

IF you are going to declare yourself "unfit" to the degree that you need TAXPAYER $$ to exist, then you should be grateful enough to make it known.

FOR INSTANCE - any pure "welfare" $$ ought to be restricted to purchasing the most basic of real food items - such as dried beans, rice, flour, canned meat/vegetables, bread, etc. === NO 'luxury items' such as snow crab legs, etc.

People with any mental 'disabilities' should have it marked on their IDs.

ANY fraud in the system should be dealt with Rapidly and Harshly.

There was a time in America where people took care of less fortunate people on their own. People knew who the scammers were and they were left to their own devises - perhaps they had family or friends who would shelter them.

I've repeated it often - growing up in the recovery from the Great Depression, there were many hoboes roaming the country. My mom would fix them a meal when they came by the house - but while she was preparing it, they had to perform some task. Usually the task was simple - something that was one of my own 'chores' so I asked her why she had them do it instead of ME.

Her words stuck with me - "so they will feel better about themselves - they earned it,"

I've never wanted anything I didn't earn in my life. My wife and kids are the only exceptions to that dictum.

Yep. These are the huge issues that are real drivers of the deficit. My wife has cousins who simply refuse to work. They get checks for "autism" shite like that. It's nonsense.

There's a ton of fraud in Military Disability too.
I'm not talking guys who got blown up or lost a leg.
I'm talking guys who are pulling 20% disability for an ingrown toenail. Or PTSD, when never faced a shot fired in anger. It's massive as well.
