Anyone think Veterans deserve more than one day per year recognition?

We're suppose to celebrate homosexuality for an entire month, but vets only get a single day?
Heck, even sharks get a full week of attention.
Shameful.

As a vet myself, no.
We get plenty of benefits already, much undeserved. It's a job that was voluntarily signed up for.

most veterans I know couldn't give a shite less, although there are professional "look at me ! I served!" pockets out there

Is this a twist on the "When is white people's history month?"
Most vets don't desire additional recognition.

They do get recognition all year via "thank you for your service".
My son (E-6) gets that a lot when in uniform and it makes him feel put on the spot. His newest response to the comment is "Thank you for your taxes."

There are all types, no matter where you go
Have a blowhard in the neighborhood that tells everyone that will listen about his one hitch in the Marines
Three houses down from him a vet that did 11 years Army, most of it in 10th Mountain. Nicest dude you ever met, but rarely mentions it.
Just around the corner from me lives a former B-2 test pilot.
Three words out of him would be considered a conversation…LOL

THAT is an opinion I respect.
Veterans certainly deserve recognition. But the virtue signaling has gotten beyond absurd. No one has been drafted in over 50 years and fought a war even though they didn't choose to. Everyone who is in the military now voluntarily signed up to do that job. It's a great service for the public good, but stuff like letting the board a plane first, discounts at restaurants, etc are just vapid virtue signaling not meant to actually thank the vet, but to make the virtue signaler feel morally superior. I know many vets that don't accept the virtue signaling because they feel, like you, they are/were just doing their job and don't need special attention for doing it.

F' no.
Too many vets have leached onto the entitlement mindset. They want adulation and free stuff. Everyone who has served in the last 50 years volunteered and got paid.
It would sicken most to see how many are scamming the VA for disability benefits. I have no problem with honoring/supporting combat vets and any vet seriously injured, but i know AF vets who have never done anything but sit in an office chair who are claiming benefits.

They get discounts special mortgages etc etc.
Now if they were drafted, sure. But everyone currently in the military chose to do what they do.
They are to be respected, but we aint gotta jerk em off all the time.
