Sighting scope question

I plan on sighting my scope for the first time this weekend. Can I use cheaper rounds to do this or is it better to sight with the ammo I plan on using for hunting? The rifle is a Remington 700 30-06.
I had my scope boresighted a week or so ago by Bass Pro.
I haven’t been deer hunting since I was 16 after going into anaphylactic shock…twice….from touching deer I harvested. Turns out I am allergic to deer dander. Anyway, 23 years later I’m giving it a go again Thanksgiving thru the end of the season.

You can use the cheaper rounds to get you close then finish with the actual rounds you intend to hunt with. Bore sight may have you on paper, I’d start at 25-50yrds then push back.
Let the barrel cool between shots or you will start straying your shots.

Different ammunition will have different results. Not huge, but there will be a variance. You could get it close with cheap ammo, then confirm a good 4 or 5 shot group with what you plan to hunt with.

You can use cheap rounds to get close if you have some to burn. But no matter what you’re going to want to get it zeroed at the end using the round you will hunt with.
If it’s bore sighted, hopefully you will be on paper at 100 yards. Shoot once and if it’s not on paper, move the target to 25 yards and try to get it centered before moving back to 100.
Once at 100, you can conserve ammo if you have a steady enough rest by shooting once and then dialing the crosshairs from the bullseye to the bullet hole. Next shot should be pretty close to zero.

This is what I do. When you get lucky there's no difference, so I fully zero with the cheap stuff and then check/adjust with the hunting stuff.
Don't get too hung up on this. If you can hit a paper plate every shot at your maximum hunting range, youre good to go.

How many rounds does this save you?
You should be able to sight in a rifle in under 10 rounds. If not either you don't know what you are doing or you shouldn't trust the rifle.

Sure, with a good scope good range good rifle etc etc.
It takes me 3 rounds. One round at close range, adjust, one at 100 yards, adjust, done. But that's with a scope that tracks perfectly, has a subtended reticle that measures accurately, and some really big pieces of paper.
Ive seen guys run out of ammo trying to get their rifles zeroed. It happens to all of us. With the price and availability of ammo these days, especially with anything the magazines isn't pimping, it can save someone a bunch of money.
And, you just might find that the cheap ammo shoots near enough to POI of your fancy stuff to be used for practice. It usually does.

Here is what I would do.
Shoot it at 25yds, you want to about 1in low and dead center at that range. Make any adjustments to get that based on that first shot. Remember that you have to move the dial 16 times to get 1in at 25yds if it’s 1/4in per click at 100yds!!!
Move to 100yd and fire a shot into a one inch gridded target and observe location of impact and then adjust based on how many inches/clicks you are off.
If you have a good sandbag you can set the gun and adjust cross hairs to match bullet impact but it’s hard to make sure the gun don’t move during dialing.
As for the bullets some of the cheap ones (hornady whitetail and rem cor lokt) are great bullets for most deer hunting and some of the cheapest to be bought.
Good luck I would say I hope u get one but then that would be wishing you get anaphylactic shock so I’m just gonna say good luck

A .30-06 bullet that is zeroed at 25 yards will be about 3 inches high at 100 yards.
I shoot a Remington Woodsmaster 30-06, I've been sighting mine in at 25 yards for 25 years.
And it's always dead on .
Draw an + on a piece of paper so you can line the scope up, and put it 1/4 inch high at 25.

Pro-tip. Bring a couple epi-pens.

So what’s your plan for the deer dander?

“allergic to deer dander”
That sucks!
A friend I used to hunt with’s brother was allergic to deer hair.He could touch the antlers but someone else had to skin it for him.

How does one catch this? Asking for a friend.
