2 Democrats speak out against transgender athletes after Trump win

Two House Democrats said they oppose transgender athletes competing in women's sports in the immediate aftermath of President-elect Trump's decisive victory over Vice President Harris, shifting right of their previous policy positions and deepening fractures within a bruised Democratic Party.
quote:
"The Democrats have to stop pandering to the far left," Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) told The New York Times on Wednesday. "I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports." "Democrats aren't saying that, and they should be," said Suozzi, who narrowly won reelection Tuesday.
quote:
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) similarly blamed Harris and Democrats' unwillingness to move on trans athletes for the party's election night losses.
"Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face," Moulton told The New York Times Thursday. "I have two little girls, I don't want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I'm supposed to be afraid to say that."
Moulton, like Suozzi, has voted with most other Democrats to safeguard transgender rights since his election to Congress in 2015. Twice, once in 2022 and again in 2023, he cosponsored House Democrats' Transgender Bill of Rights, which, among other protections, would guarantee trans athletes the right to participate on sports teams that match their gender identity.

1) There’s no such thing as “formerly male.” As long as you keep legitimizing that insanity it will keep being a problem.
2) As an adult leader, you should never be afraid to speak the truth against an ideology that is harmful to children. Such cowardice makes you unqualified to lead anyone or anything.

They were cowards, but at least they are trying.

This is the problem with their party. They are exclusively catering to a minority fringe, and in doing so, they have turned off the American people.

As I predicted, the move to moderation continues

They get their time in the camps reduced by 50%

I predict that is going to decrease SEVERELY over the next 2 years

All it takes is for someone to stand up and others, who were previously afraid will join them. Maybe, just maybe, some of the Dems who weren't so woke, but only fearful of retribution from their own party, are starting to see that they don't have to toe the extremist line.

Damn straight, they are trying to test out new words, take a half step back, still same fckery going on in their warped minds.
No male is ever any type of woman.

A comment I read somewhere went something like this: there are no “formerly” male athletes. There are male athletes whose plastic surgeons were more skilled than their psychiatrists.

Until they win an election. Then it's right back to the edge

I would disagree. I think the 2020 and 2024 elections were not as much about the policies or candidate, but more about the disapproval of the current administration. The pendulum is just swinging away from whoever is currently in power. I doubt Trump, who will be a thousand years old, will win another term. The democrats will win and it will embolden them and the republicans will make the same comments that they need to move more to the center. So liberals will move more left next time and conservatives will move more center.
I hope you are right. I’m just not sure I see that path from the political machines.

Big time cowards.
They knew it was wrong. Yet they voted yes multiple times.
That lack of strength is more concerning then getting it wrong and then figuring it out.
This means the will compromise their morality of pressure is brought to bear.
They are worthless.

I always wondered what the thinking was behind the decision to go all in "trans" by the dems? The juice never seemed worth the squeeze.

But you are discriminating - against the girls who want to play girls.

Where were these two figs pre-election?
It’s easy to say it now because you had a referendum on your arse.
