Give me either Armstrong from UNLV, Travis Williams from Arky or see if Mullen wants to leave the booth and come back to coaching

Travis Williams would be great there

Farmer Fran Orgeron
His salary should not be much as LSU overpaid him to get rid of him.

Joe Craddock since the Tulane OC thing worked out so well last time

I'd bet a lot it is Derek Nix (OC at Auburn).
He played there and knows everyone in the state of MS. If they hire anyone else without offering it or him they are stupid.

Agreed
I don't know if they hire Nix but he is a must interview. They could do a lot worse.

I don't think he'll be hired but Southern Miss could definitely do worse.

I'm not sure Southern Miss can afford to pay many coaches enough to leave their current jobs and come there. I really thought Will Hall would work out there being a native Mississippian with deep ties due to his dad having coached HS football in Mississippi for 40 years. it just didn't work out.
Outsiders like Fedora and Monken have worked in the past. Maybe they need to find someone who is motived and wants to be a D1 HC with no ties to USM or the state of Mississippi.

We all thought Hall would work out. He completely changed his offense from Tulane when he came to Southern, went from a read option/ground and pound type to wanting to have his QB drop back 40+ times a game. Hell, his best offenses here were when he had a Running Back playing QB

I was convinced that he was going to get them rolling again.

Southern Miss is a sleeping giant. Fertile recruiting ground and so close to New Orleans, Mobile and Pensacola which consistently puts out great football players.

While not a Hall fan as he played and coached at my school's rivals, he's had great offenses everywhere he has been. I expected the same at USM.

Money is an issue for them though, and there is way more competition for these players at the FBS level than there used to be.

I would agree with you other than a couple of the money guys are friends of mine and some of the names that have reached out to the AD (allegedly) surprised me. Guys that would take a paycut to be a head coach.
We'll see by the end of the month.

This was true 20 years ago but ULL, Troy, USA, etc. have watered down the players they can get. 20 years ago anyone in south LA, South MS or Mobile area that didn’t go to the SEC went to USM. Now they have a lot of schools to fight over recruits for.

The Problem is that the kids that USM used to get from these areas now choose Troy, South Alabama, Tulane, Louisiana Lafayette or Jackson State over Southern Miss.

IMO South Alabama starting their program up combined with Tulane's recent success has had an impact on Southern Miss. For years USM recruited heavily in the New Orleans metro area and south Alabama for players.

Yep. 2nd lowest athletic budget in the Sun Belt Conference.

Southern Miss would be best suited just hiring a great head coach from a lower level college who has run a program and won consistantly.
