How are you gonna make 150k difference up being a stay at home dad?
Posted on 11/3/24 at 12:32 am to Privateer 2007
Can you survive on just 175k as opposed to 225k? If you can then, the simple answer is yes.
I always thought I would love to be a stay at home dad, but I was home for one week with my kids before summer camp started and I changed my mind.
Of course this all changes depending on how old the kids are and how active they are outside of the normal school day.
If my kids were in high school, frick yeah I’d stay home. If they were under 4, frick no would I’d stay home.

Is it okay for a man to allow his wife to support him? I'm not talking celebrity shite like Taylor Swift where she earns 10x a brain surgeons yearly salary in 1 night. Like, if your wife makes 175 k and you make 150k. Just looking for opinions.
My wife and I both make more than that and we have no kids. Couldn’t imagine living on one of our incomes now but we have been doing this for a while.
My wife makes more than me but I’d be a fricking idiot to quit a 200k plus year job.

So subtle I almost didn’t notice the subtleness.

He asked for an answer and I gave him one.
You would have to be a complete tard in today’s economy to give up 150k

150k +175k is 325k though?
I don't know their finances but halving your income is pretty severe.
And lord I'd love to even sniff those numbers

My opinion is you’re a weak, gay, not funny boy that thinks 175k is impressive :/

175 + 150.... 5+0 = 5, 7 + 5 = 12, 1+1 + the one from the 12... Yeap.. That's 3.

Do what works for your family and don’t think twice about it. The beta move is asking TD for validation

If you do it you have to approach it like a job. Break it down on a spreadsheet. Work it into a budget.

Long time breadwinner here. Went from being the breadwinner married to a stay at home mom without a job, to a stay at home Dad with mom as the breadwinner. As the kids got older she started a side business while the kids were in school, and it shot off like a rocket. It became pointless that I kept working as it was a strain on us parent wise, and she was/is making money that anyone could only dream of. I realized what was best for my family, so I quit my career to help her form a legit business with employees. I am the administrator which only requires several hours a week of work.
When we first decided to do this, we got every question and judgement in the book forced upon us by friends and family. The big question I had was how do I feel about this new role (like it was demeaning). I said well my stress level is now a 1/10 instead of a 10/10. I don't have to worry anymore of being fired, laid off, injured, or killed from my offshore job, and I don't have to worry about being responsible for killing or severely injuring a coworker/subordinate. I would say Iam happy as a clam.
No-one understood it then. Now they all do.
If you can live well off of the wife's income I would say do it. The family togetherness we have had is priceless. It was a strain on us in the past.

Where do you get this from?

Edit.. answering OPs question: Why not? I'm planning for both us to "stay at home".

I wish my wife made more than me. How can more income be bad? Who cares which spouse makes more.
