I am much more liberal on some social issues than the majority of the board, I suppose, but am very conservative fiscally, and I align with the MAGA movement.

I am not anti-abortion across the board, but align more with “should be legal, but very rare and very early in the pregnancy.”

What is the board’s view on sterilization…too “big government?”

Would you support a mandatory sterilization program if the individual has a child, and requests government assistance/ welfare? An individual could have as many children as they want, but as soon as that person requests welfare, government assistance, etc. then they must submit to sterilization.

Would this fix the problem of extremely high rates of procreation in a subset of society that is causing most of crime, etc or would it create other issues?

I would prefer an incentivization plan. Pay welfare recipients a few thousand bucks to voluntarily have a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. I suspect many of them would do it to get some quick cash.

ETA: And it would still cost the taxpayers far, far less in the long term.

What would cost the taxpayers basically the price of chicken feed would be the option of the government will provide free birth control pills, 99% effective, for you. However, if you forego this option and have an unwanted child then you are on your own.

Pretty simple.

In theory one could not be pro-abortion with no limits and anti-sterilization simultaneously because both are not acts, in their minds, against existing "life".

How many would take the money and not take the pill? It has to be the implant.

I would support a mandatory sterilization for violent criminals, and a voluntary program of sterilization for welfare recipients in wich they would receive a monetary reward for their participation.

Anything involving sterilization sounds very Orwellian to me. Don’t like it.

There is no money offered in my solution, just a free pill.

I'd want our political leader "Trump" after the election to give a specific speech about abortion. He needs to state that the underpinning of the entire issue is appalling. In a civilized world, you celebrate babies or you don't have them exterminated. And there are means to prevent having them and abortion as birth control is end spectrum. But the government will provide to those who don't want kids and don't want to use protection sterilization as an option. The government will subsidize voluntary sterilization for those women.

They won't ever consent to being sterilized either because they celebrate the thought of abortion or deep down in the recesses of their brain they still have a hidden thought about motherhood.

1). There would be doctors that would fake the records.
2) Any party that passed said measure would be a minority party for decades.

That said.
Some of these people having 6+ children and taking the tax breaks, and handouts? Yeah. I'd be for giving them the snip.

I think welfare reform is possible without sterilizing citizens.

offering sterilization for a monetary reward is very doable, and I think it would be a big positive for our society.

Purple, I get what you are doing here. I'd like to see numbers for a sign up roster for those choosing voluntary sterilization at college campuses or certain music concerts.

They want the issue, not the solution.

I think assistance should be temporary and only for one child.

After that, you are on your own. The government will help the kids be fed, but that's it. If you can't provide for your child, jail time may be in your future.

Its not about if it is doable. You could also think of drastic measures like taking away children and making them wards of the state if the parents go on welfare, or agreeing to have your whole family euthanized if you cannot get off welfare after a set time period.

My point is that you can produce welfare reform without such drastic measures. Sounds like the goal would be sterilization, not welfare reform, in this case.

This is like saying you’re “spiritual but not religious” or “kind of pregnant”.

No such things exist. Be a man and stand for something.

Sterilization cannot be coercive (money) it just has to be flat out voluntary. Let a woman choose. Imagine the feeling of freedom if one knows they will never get accidentally pregnant. You go for it girl!

I think sterilization for drug addicts is a good thing to consider. I have spent three decades helping children abused by addicted parents. The suffering and pain they experience is heartbreaking.
