Is it my imagination, or do most of the big concert tours avoid Louisiana?

I know New Orleans just had Taylor Swift, but it seems that Louisiana is not on the list for most major tours, and even most of the mid- and low-level tours.

I love live music and go to a lot of concerts, but when I peruse tour lists and upcoming concerts, they are rarely in Louisiana. There are exceptions of course, Tedeschi Trucks is a great band, which I can't make on this tour regrettably.

New Orleans gets the bulk of the good shows, understandably, and Shreveport gets some as well. It seems the rest of the state is a music wasteland.

Thoughts?

Not having a shed eliminates SO many artists from coming here.

I don't think there is a good amphitheater in the whole state.

Is it the heat? Would be miserable for much of the year.

not having an amphitheater hurts a lot as noted. I think UNO is a fine venue for 8000 seats but for whatever reason it is underutilized

on the other hand just in the past/upcoming 30 days I have seen or will see Sierra hull, greensky bluegrass, tedeschi trucks, bob weir and billy strings all in NOLA…that’s a lot of good stuff and there’s plenty more

Yet Mississippi, Texas, and Alabama have multiple.
We had Champions Square but I think Benson family infighting ruined that. There was talk of building one on the lake front but that fell apart.

FYI: I believe the ones in Gautier, MS (and maybe Brandon?) were developed by the city/local governments. Don’t think investors/developers were behind them

The lack of a 15k-20k seat amphitheater makes the New Orleans area lose out on a ton of business from the spring until the end of summer as so many bands specifically play that circuit during the warmer months. New Orleans is considered a B level market in the touring business. They do get some big shows at the Smoothie King Center but not near as many as the A level cities on a consistent basis.

Not enough money (economy here is shite), close enough to Houston and Biloxi to warrant being skipped, very little local radio support, and no amphitheaters. There’s also, allegedly, some tax reasons, plus so many groups having issues with gear being stolen in New Orleans.

UNO doesn't get a ton of shows anymore because it's an old building. Bands at that level want to play the newer places

I'm not sure how important local radio is for promotion these days but back in the 90s at least you needed a popular radio station in town to help promote the show.

Links? Not to say it doesn’t happen. Haven’t heard much of that., especially big national touring acts

I assumed more to do with booking agents and bands being in bed with Live Nation and other big behemoth players of the industry
But I have no inside knowledge

I know of multiple mid tier acts, the kinds that historically played The Varsity, House of Blues, and the Fillmore who have all vowed to never return to New Orleans because their entire equipment trailers or other gear were stolen.

I agree with you, just trying to grasp at the reasoning.

Where would a spot be for one in the NOLA area out of curiosity?

The only place I can think of in Jefferson Parish would be to tear down the Shrine on Airline(Zepher Stadium) to build an amphitheater but then you would still have lack of parking & access to roads getting in & out. I wouldn’t even want to consider how much it would take to shake down & payoff everyone involved to get an amphitheater built anywhere in Orleans Parish.

An amphitheater would suck 9 months oit of the year. F$&k outdoor concerts in Louisiana. I did one a couple July’s ago in Lafayette and wanted to die.

1st choice out by UNO on the lakefront, between maestri field & the lake
still would be hot in summer but at least there would be a breeze by the water

2nd choice, at the fly behind audubon park

3rd choice, city park

new orleans gets way better touring acts than houston

Houston gets big pop and rap acts but struggles for your goose level bands

White oak has helped a bit
