Blood borne?

Looking for a new story game to start. I’ve tried getting into the last far cry which I normally love that series but it wasn’t for me. The Witcher 3 I’m done and enjoyed a lot. I see blood or e sitting in my collection and I’ve never played that, and thinking of giving it a go. Whats the gaming boards’ thoughts on it and similar games?

How much experience do you have with Souls-like games?

Not worth playing if you want a good story. Gameplay is very frustrating

A story is more what I’m looking for. I’ve started this a bit and have gotten nothing story wise

You have to go looking for the story. If you’re looking for a “normal” game, a Souls-like ain’t it.

Have you tried Ghost of Tsushima? Great story and I enjoyed the combat too.

If you play video games for a story I strongly suggest you take up an entirely new hobby.
May I suggest movies?

If you've never played a FromSoftware "Souls-like" game and you mostly want a story, you're almost certainly going to find it way, way too difficult and frustrating.
Unlike most modern games it has real challenge in it and has absolutely no problem with killing you 100 times in the exact same spot.
If you stick with it and actually start overcoming the challenges, they'll be the best games you've ever played.

Bloodborne is not the game if you want a good story, most souls like games especially made by Fromsoftware are difficult to follow. I know Red Dead 2 is old but if you haven’t played that then play it

What an absolutely awful take

thoughts on it
My favorite game of all time. It is not a game you really play for the story. It is more about the experience and the journey.
Think John Wick. Nobody really cares about the plot but everybody would watch the movies multiple times.

If this is your first soulsborne game, do it now. I really love DS3, have beaten a few times, just recently finished Elden Ring base game. I've tried and tried to get into BB but it's never clicked. I'm about 10 hours in. I'm not an FPS snob, but going from ER to this was too much, and I'm pretty sure I won't attempt BB again until they release a remaster.

I cannot second this enough.
This game is 100% a must play.

There's nothing wrong with a good story in video games, however there is WAY WAY WAY WAY too much focus on story and characters and voice acting and realistic motion captured animations and shite like that.
All that stuff is nice to haves, but instead has become the primary focus, and is one of the main reasons modern video gaming is such a mess.
The movification of video games is terrible.

But story, or narrative, has nothing to do with movification. I've played 2D platformers with great narratives. I can't think of a single game I've ever played in which I thought "man, they spent too much time on the narrative and not enough on gameplay", though I'm sure one might exist out there. But regardless, I think your true complaint is regarding time spent on motion capture and money/time spent on voice acting that could have been invested elsewhere. But a solid narrative turns a fun game into a great game.

Bloodborne is great, but I don't think it really fits the bill for what you're looking for story-wise.
If you want games with good, approachable stories, I would suggest:
1. Ghosts of Tsushima
2. The Last of Us Part 1 (and maybe Part 2)
3. Bioshock (and maybe Bioshock Infinite)
4. God of War (2018) and its sequel
I feel like Bloodborne's "story" is too esoteric unless you are willing to do the work and read outside sources from the game.
