Missi contributing like this this early is pretty surprising. He’s playing well.

If he keeps it up he will be a starter soon.

I was crucified for saying an athletic shot blocker would fit right in and we wouldn’t miss JV’s many weaknesses.

Solid showing.

He did get lost and not make plays on a few layups in the 1st half but for a project who many said shouldn't play 1 minute in the NBA this season, this has been about as good as we could have hoped for.

I know this is asking a lot but I do hope folks can keep their season 1 expectations for him in check. Like, understand he'll possibly play more than we thought we would, which is good. But there will absolutely be a ton of growing pains in doing so, let's keep that in mind.

Yeah, there was that two minute stretch where he was pretty lost on defense.

Even if it costs us a few games (I don't think that it will), we should be making sure to give him at least 20MPG early in the season. The front office keeps emphasizing that he's a very quick learner. Let him get his struggles in early and it will pay dividends later on.

Our 5 has been costing us for seasons, regardless. What Missi is already showing is he will contribute more to this roster than JV or Nance could.

What?

In no world was Val a net negative, what are you talking about?

Missi won't contribute as a whole this season more than Val, you're setting this poor dude up because you can't be rational about 1 game.

You think every game will look like this. Don't do that.

Journalist in the post game made a good point (by way of a question): Missi did a really good job setting screens (Val was prone to fouling), which opens things up for the team.

JV was the least athletic person on the floor every night. Could barely jump over paper, no side to side agility, and couldn’t score putbacks. He was a negative.

Correct.

Not really. He had his limitations, but there were quite a few stretches where the rest of the team went cold, and Val would carry us. But for some reason, without fail, Willie/the team would take the ball out of his hands or bench him after those great stretches.

Val was nice to have bc you know offensively he could put the team on his back if you needed him too. Now thar we have 4 dudes who can put the team on their backs if necessary offensively, having Val on this team would be a net negative giving his defensive and rim running limitations.

You want me to pretend like he isn’t gonna win DPOY and MVP this season? I’ll try

Very impressive first game for a rookie. However, he does need some work on recognition. The Bulls attacked him pretty successfully in the PNR a lot.

If JV is such a plus. Why did he sign with the worst team in the league? At his age, wouldn’t it make sense to help put a contender over the top? Dude was abysmal, and he’s a great dude, but I’m not going to pretend like he was a good player his last couple seasons due to likability or availability.
