No report on cause of death. Only 63...many fond memories watching him pitch back in the '80s.

Same - the Dodgers were my favorite team as a kid. Rip El Toro

Loved watching this guy pitch as a kid. Great story too. Dude had a screwball that was a thing of beauty.

He never ever seemed to get tired and when he lost velocity he had other pitches in his repertoire. For those who weren’t there, baseball was much bigger in our sports culture at that time and he was the biggest story in sports . There was non stop love for him for 3/4 years. Legend.
RIP , Señor Valenzuela. You will be missed.

The way he would look up during his windup was freaky. I'd lose my balance.

I was a Braves and Reds fan growing up but watching him pitch against the Braves was a treat. That guy could deal. RiP.

Wow! Watched him pitch in Dodgers Stadium against Mike Scott and the Astros.

Rest in peace.
I was in the Launching Pad when Valenzuela brought his 13-game winning streak to town. He was a great pitcher, but the Braves had his number that night. The whole stadium chanted "Adios Fernando" as he walked off the mound.
Hat tip

A true gentleman.
I was fortunate enough to play golf with him when I was a golf pro in Vero Beach. RIP Fernando.

He beat my Astros several times when we were in the NL West. He was a tough competitor for several years.

I heard the drums every time he pitched.
Now we're old and grey Fernando
And since many years I haven't seen a baseball in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
