What was the Saints' plan when Knees retired?

Knees and Payton could and should have planned Knees' exit out to the exact date (years in advance) while hand selecting an elite QB or elite QB prospect. They chose neither. Instead, they had Knees groom the following idiots to fill his anticipated vacancy while Knees was still on the team:
1. Teddy Bridgewater (rode his bike to the Dome, now unemployed)
2. Taysom Hill (centerfielder on youth baseball team)
3. Jameis Winston (locker room favorite, but proven interception machine)
When those 3 didn't work the organization turned to:
1. Trevor Siemian (backup QB)
2. Ian Book (now a free agent)
3. Andy Dalton (serviceable journeyman)
4. Derek Carr (eyeliner)
5. Spencer Rattler (we shall see)
In what world is this acceptable? Did they really think Ian Book was the future when he was drafted?

I don’t think they had one. I believe they thought Drew would play a few more years and is shoulder/arm decline caught them off guard. We ended up in cap hell with no qb and after one season no Sean Payton

The Brees hatred is pretty sad. He did way more great things for this city and franchise, but he's constantly trashed by people over one insane year.
