Just trying to get a little background on this high school. Academics, social aspects?

When I was in college, I met a bunch of kids from that school. It was basically the first two or three graduating classes back in the 80s.

These kids were the weirdest motherfrickers I met in college. Just a bunch of oddballs.

IMO, those kids remind me of The Big Bang Theory sitcom. Insanely smart and can function amongst themselves. Put them in the real world and they become disoriented.

Guy I knew that went there was WEIRD AF.
He was into Fencing. Like Olympic Fencing.
You have to be smart to go to school there, but there are plenty of smart people that go to their local public/private HS and are successful in life.

It's almost like when you consolidate all the smart, weird kids from all over the state in one location, you create a bubble of weird with no buffer to prevent them from going too weird.

To me, most of these kids were generally intelligent. However, they weren’t over the top smart. It wasn't like they were setting the curve in every class they were in. They just did pretty well at a school like LSU. It certainly didn’t make up for how fricking weird they were.

Met a bunch in Honors College. Learned a lot about my place in the intelligence-education sphere (outside of IQ scores and my gifted peers from middle/high school) compared to them first year.

One of my friends from Barbe went to LSMSA his last year or 2, so I met some of them socially. One of the smarter ones dropped out to deliver pizzas so he could smoke weed all day.

Very good school. Apparently quite strict. Very weird socially as others have mentioned. Quite liberal

very smart kids
think Baton Rouge High type kids
better have a pretty mature kid as well for those that go there from out of town and basically dorm type living like you get in college
personally I would want my kid to have a normal high school experience but to each their own

I would rather my kids go to a normal high school, too. If they're like me, they won't need LSMSA. If they're not like me, LSMSA won't magically help them.

Gifted classes in a relatively metro area should be enough.

Several kids in our family have gone. They were very prepared for college and many more scholarships are given to schools outside of LA than your local high school.
