Facebook link sorry
Cemetery on the Westbank plans Dia de los muertos “celebration” complete with food trucks, mariachi, and a low rider car show
in the cemetery, westbank white folk proceed to lose their collective mind. I ain’t got a dog in the fight so I don’t give two shits either way, just seeing what the OT thought.

If it’s not a private family cemetery that’s their family, it’s pretty fricked up and disrespectful.

That's an idea - have a country rock BBQ show at Gram Parsons grave in Metairie

I knew this is a big Mexican holiday. I didn't know they have actual cemetery parties but according to google Its customary. I don't object to it in principle but in practice it would be very unsettling to visit a family member's grave and find a fiesta in progress.

It's all fine for them to have it but not at west lawn they should have this at a park my mom passed and she is in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery & believe me everyone will hear her bitching she will not be happy with this in her resting place.
Wut

It's a vestige of the death cult that people like Columbus, Balboa, and DeSoto put an end to hundreds of years ago. It needs to all stay in the garbage can of history.

All cultures matter except for American culture

I hope my family throws a party at my grave once every couple years. Hopefully they can pour out a couple cold ones for my corpse

You're talking about celebrating life, albeit a life that has ended. Day of the Dead is about celebrating death. Look at the name of it.
Besides, I thought Mexico was a deeply Christian country. Mexicans are supposed to be liberated from death by the blood of Christ, right? Why even think about death?
I guess Mexican Christianity is kind of like that anti-gay, pro-family Black Church we keep expecting to show up at the ballot box. It goes away if you try to actually look at it too closely.

The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember amusing events and anecdotes about the departed.
I dunno, doesn't sound as Satanist as all that.
My only experience with it was that disney movie Coco

My grandparents are buried there. I’m not going to lose sleep over it, but think its in poor taste. Its a Mexican tradition and just based on westbank demographics (at least up until after Katrina) I doubt there’s many Mexicans buried in that cemetary, so why do it there to start with?

I don’t see the problem with this. In fact, I hope a bunch of people do this in whatever graveyard I end up in.
Looks fun as hell!

I wished they’d have it in the small town cemetery where my deceased relatives are buried. At least someone might cut the damned grass.
