Don't believe Guilbeau's spin
Sorry if this is old news, but I hate this guy!
quote:

The facts remain that LSU very much wanted to hire Orgeron and Orgeron was very interested in the job, which would have been as associate head coach/recruiting coordinator in addition to defensive line coach.
...
If Orgeron was just milking LSU to get a better offer from Tennessee, which is very possible and often done in many lines of work, Kiffin could have made the offer of more money over the phone. Instead, the Kiffins and others at Tennessee “were freaking out” so much over Orgeron likely going to LSU

All of Glenn's sources concerning the details of the offer are from O's side. He admits that it is very possible that Orgeron was milking LSU, so why should we believe anything we learn about the offer from Orgeron himself if his words were calculated to get a better offer from Kiffin?

Yes, Kiffin flew down because he was "freaking out" - just what O wanted. But what Glenn leaves out is that Orgeron said he took the job because of the opportunity to work with Monty and be in line for the DC position in a few years after Monty retires - this made it "a better fit" he said. Funny thing is, Monty was involved from day one and O knew all along it would be better to work under Monty for a few years with an agreement that he would step in as DC in the near future.
quote:

Hebert and Orgeron have known one another for most of their lives. ... Ed Orgeron’s own mother ... privately confirmed to Gannett on Tuesday night that her son was indeed considering coaching at LSU while in Destin.

Sounds like O knew all along that he prefered the Tennessee job, but to get the maximum salary he needed to create competition. Therefore, HE spoke up, saying that he would "listen" if LSU approached him - remember that. Then he began to leak a few details to his friend in the media Bobby Hebert.
quote:

Some LSU officials may now try to spin that Orgeron was never really a candidate. Don’t believe them. Two athletic department officials in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A Bowl last week were excited about Orgeron’s imminent arrival. One even bragged on Miles. “How many coaches out there could have two sitting head coaches on their staff? Gary Crowton and Orgeron,” he said.

Who said so - who is the source?? And again - no details, for all we know from this athletic department official's comment, Miles could have simple offered O the DL coaching job and that was it. So if they deny he was offered more $$ than the DC, or the recruiting position, there is no reason to doubt them based on this comment.

And that makes it different than every other column he has written?

He reported it as a done deal-and in trying to be first to break it, he now has the most egg on his face.

Guilbeau was wrong and doesn't want to admit it. He fails to realize that a "done deal" is never done until the coach signed or at least publicly announced he was going. He can whine all he wants but Ms. Oregon and Bobby Hebert don't have authority to speak on behalf of Coach O.

Glen Bilbo jumped the gun. What a tool.

Great comment. Glenn is a piece of....work. Stupid, stupid column. Even if he's right, all I kept thinking the whole time was, "So what!?"

IMHO,he is actually biased against LSU. He seems to highlight negative things about LSU's program. Everyone has the right to criticize, but I'd be surprised if he ever heard the term "positive criticism".

What wil said. The dude obviously has a bug up his arse about LSU. Tigers have won 2 MNC's in the past 6 yrs.and yet, 80% of his articles have a negative spin.

Why is it a big deal to negotiate a bigger deal? I have done it with my career and get nothing but respect for it. If he worked one company to get another company to pay him more he did what any successful business man does. I'm as big a fan of LSU as anyone but that doesn't mean I expect the people involved as potential employees to love it like I do. Business is business and when you are feeding your family or improving the lifestyle then who wouldn't do that? Its no different than working for Microsoft and going to Apple.

I agree. And everyone except "rantards" and possibly Les Miles probably agree too. If the Ogre is successful, he would e welcomed back at LSU by successive administrations/staffs, should this one move on. Water under the bridge.
