Don’t forget he has already promised the largest deportation operation in US history, implemented via collaboration with local law enforcement. No doubt the new agents will be to help facilitate that.

As I keep saying, before Trump can do anything to help this nation, he first must get elected.
I don't believe anymore agents are needed. The raise is a good idea. The reality is that nothing more is needed than what was happening Trumps last day in office.
But he's got to present something publically that makes it appear he's making the border more secure.
Personally, anything short of utilizing the military and creating a DMZ is not enough.
The border needs to be sealed shut until we can undo the damage the Marxist have inflicted. IMHO

ETA: am voting Trump but it frightens me to think of terrorist sleeper cells waiting the democrat call to action.
