Why does LSU run the RPO now when everyone knows Garrett Nussmeier is not going to run the ball? Obviously with Jayden Daniels the threat was real. Shouldn't we run something that optimizing our offensive production. Just my thoughts!!!

Are you talking about the Read Option? Because RPO is usually a handoff or pull it and throw.

RPO = Run/pass option

Read Option = QB reads and either pulls and runs or hands off.

QB's do not run the ball on RPO's. It's too much to read too quickly. If the QB ran on an RPO he would have to read "give or keep" and also read "keep or throw the slant, hitch, etc." all in the course of about 1 second. QB's do not run the ball on RPO's.

The "run" in RPO does not have to mean the QB runs. It most typically means that the ball can be handed to the RB. Jayden's legs did help to make the RPO almost have a triple option type of feel, but it's not necessary to the play.

Run-pass-option includes a run either by the qb or the back. In our case it’s just the back. It would essentially be the same as a fake handoff with a pass option.

Burrow killed people with the RPO and didn't run it much.

People think the read option he ran against Bama (That might be a heisman moment right there!) was an RPO...It wasn't. It was basic read option.

RPO is a play in American football where the offense can choose to pass or run the ball based on the defense's alignment and actions.

So OP, who are the options to run the ball?

They are setting him up for a surprise run to score the winning TD against Bama

For some reason, our fan base doesn’t understand the fundamental difference between RPO and Read Option.

Disregarding the RPO stuff and answering the why do a read when they know nuss isnt going to run. I would say at some point they are going to have him run against a team that sells out on the RB later in the year. Put on film you dont want him to run so defenses don't respect it.

Maybe you should learn what an RPO is before criticizing.

Yes, LSU runs a run-pass option (RPO) offense:
RPO
A play where the quarterback can run, pass, or hand the ball off to a running back based on the defense's reaction. The quarterback makes this decision in real time, which gives the offense an advantage.
Zone read
A play where the quarterback reads the defensive end on the line of scrimmage. If the defensive end takes the quarterback, the quarterback hands off the ball.
Inside zone
A concept that LSU used with Jayden Daniels. Inside handoffs looked similar at the snap, which often made defenders hesitate on traditional runs.

Geez dude, youve been on here since 2008 and still dont know what an RPO is?

Run is deciding either to give the ball to the RB or instead pull the ball out and option into a Pass play by the QB. Including the option of throwing the ball to the RB that he just pulled the ball from

Zone READ is where the QB eyes the gaps and decides whether to give it to the RB or keep it in order to run thru a different gap. We dont run zone reads with Nuss

This is a ZONE READ to the RB

This is a ZONE READ where the QB keeps the ball

Neither of these plays allow the QB to pass the ball as an option. Because the WRs start blocking from the get-go

Are you talking about zone read? Because read option gives the qb a man to pitch the ball to after keeping. I did not know the difference until I heard Chip Kelly explain it. And he knows running schemes.

For the same reason LSU ran the RPO with Perriloux when everyone knew he was going to run the ball ... right up until he didn't.
