There are people whose land is lost to the river and creek changes from Helene

While watching this video, it occurred to me that the changes to rivers and creeks will lead to major shifts in land ownership. It will take years to establish new boundaries and conduct surveys to confirm these changes.
Something I never really thought about until now.
At least FEMA gave them $750, though!

Can’t wait to see how insurance companies get out of paying anything to these poor people.
I have family, including my parents, in Asheville and thankfully their homes are all fine (minus electricity and water). But I was there twice over the last couple months and have seen countless photos and videos of places right by them where I had eaten/drank and it’s all gone or flooded.
Not a “could have been me” post, just sobering to see.

I wonder how many have been contacted to sell their land...

In extreme cases like this, riparian rights are down right tricky.

Thought I’d seen all or most of what hurricanes could do.
Nope. Damn that’s bad.

2016 flashbacks.

I’d go for a claim to own a percentage of the water way. Probably some $$ in there somewhere. Go big.

Yea. I feel bad for people who already lost so much having this battle to deal with too.

Imagine not only losing your house but the land too leaving you no option to rebuild

It doesnt really take that long for the Army Corps of Engineers to redo a survey they use drones to do a lot of it usually gets done within a year or less.. at least in my experience and its happened a few times here
now if you want to argue about how correct it is and how long the appeals process takes it does a while but they come back with new boundaries pretty quickly especially when dealing with waterways

Seems the pathway in almost every case is the road.
