Checking in from Augusta (CSRA) Post-Helene

We’re nowhere near as bad as Asheville, but the Augusta area got hit HARD. We’re still in the dark, with some main thoroughfares getting a little bit of power now.
Georgia Power and our county government have done a phenomenal job, but there’s a lot more to be done, and other counties are having more difficult times.
Checking in to say this: I have been extremely moved by the community’s response. People don’t care how each other are voting. People are looking out for one another and doing what they can to help everyone: complete strangers, neighbors and everyone in between.
It has been incredibly moving.
I hope any other TD posters in the path are okay.

I’m glad you are ok! Praying for all those affected

In a town where so many run red lights everyday, the average driver has slowed down and been civil on the roads.
Riverwatch has no functional traffic signals. I was amazed that I made it both ways without seeing a wreck.
On ordinary days, a red light is a suggestion. When my light turns green, I wait for the 3 heroes to plow through the intersection.
I’m impressed that our driving culture has adapted so quickly and in a positive way.

In SW Georgia and we were blessed that our home and people are all good. Good to know you and yours are ok too.
We did not lose power through the storm.
Glad to hear the people coming together. That should be inspiring.

I’m in Columbia county. Word is we will have power by the 5th.

I'm in Arden now. Tons of equipment brought in

Is Fort Gordon doing anything organized to help out?

I'm in Columbia county and no doubt Georgia Power is doing great. If you guys saw how extensive the damage is here the fact that they expect the majority of the county will have power by the 5th is pretty much a miracle. There are trees and power lines and poles down everywhere.
This storm was the most devastating event I've seen in my entire 61 years living here but we're going to make it. Thanks to all the folks who have chipped in to help, it's very appreciated

I can tell you aren't on connect columbia county on Facebook.
There's a few trolls in there openly rooting for socialism and declaring every moment of delay a result of electing Republicans.
We chose to move our asses remote. Spent the day Friday clearing roads in Riverwood so we could all get in and out. Then abandoned ship on Saturday for columbia. Have been ferrying supplies for folks staying put.
I may return tomorrow for the remainder though.

A friends daughter her family are right in the middle of the Augusta storm damage. Power is expected to be out for another week or more. Her husband an oldest son are out clearing trees for neighbors as well as their own property. It is pretty ugly there.

I am glad you are ok and hope power is restored soon

They’re actually shut down except for emergency personnel. Fort got hit hard too. Lots of cyber operations being rerouted from what I was told.

A lot of people always piss and moan about Georgia Power - We had a storm come through sometime last year (it wasn't a hurricane - just a bad storm / mini tornado) - It blew down tons of trees and powerlines. In a day and a half they had everything restored.
What I was most impressed with them about was how they kept everybody in the affected area up to date with text messages, etc,
They actually said it was going to take 3 days to restore power, but they over delivered.
I think the worst part about losing power is just not knowing when it's going to be restored and by GA Power keeping us up to date with everything, it made the entire event a little more tolerable than it could have been.
We just basically spent the day at the movie theater that had power and watched a few movies that day LOL

You're not far from me.
30 minutes for me to the SR bridge.
Yeah, we got pounded too, looks like a war zone and we're still without power but the trees are cleared finally.
We had flooding but it spread out and soaked into the sand by Sunday.
NC and Western TN took major flooding hits. So did parts of Northern GA up around Chattanooga and Dalton from what I hear.
Honestly, Asheville .... nevermind, I'm not gonna say it. But ... it's the San Fran of the East Coast.

Columbia County Ops is the gold standard. They have been amazing. And Georgia Power has been unbelievable along with the out of state partners who are helping. It has really shown the best of humanity.
Sounds like we have some neighbors in the Poliboard. Maybe a beer’s in order when the dust settles.

Count me in. I know a good beer bar downtown Augusta ... and quite a few right across the river in Aiken.

For now.
Give it time. The msm & elected ‘leadership’ will stir animosity after a week, maybe two. They won’t be able to help themselves. They (almost exclusively the Left) are in business to promote chaos & division.
That’s what they do.
