Last year the line was getting blown off the ball every single game regardless of competition.

That was WITH maason smith, Jefferson and wingo (though wingo was hurt)

This year they are the strength of the defense.

Which is an absolute shock.

It's been a remarkable turn around and they deserve a ton of credit.

We are 5 deep on IDL and 4 deep at DE/Edge rusher. And it’s only going to improve as they both bring in their own players. Pretty damn impressive but not surprising considering these two may be the best coaches at their positions.

I hope they stay long enough to develop a couple incoming recruiting classes. We could have an absolutely disgusting Dline the next few years.

Hopefully that's a bat signal to Jakheem Stewart. He may get a better NIL deal elsewhere, but he'll get paid well here and set himself up better for future pay days. Always play the long game.

Blake's schemes are making teams block more area. House was miserable at this.

Yes damn good coaches and it shows. The dline has not been the weakness all year.

I feel like Jones is the poster child for People’s coaching that guy was a complete nothing last year as a starter.

I always thought Swinsons and Womack would be good if given reps, but Jones has don’t a 180.

It is absolutely amazing what we’re getting from the DTs so far. on paper this group is a liability and they just haven’t been bad all season.

Now we just gotta find the Davis/Peoples of safeties…

Bo Davis is about the best there is at teaching DT techniques. He’s just unbelievable at getting the best out of what he has

Peoples I didn’t know much about but what he’s done with our edge guys is remarkable. Lucky to have both of them

Yes
The dline had trouble even lining up last year
Maason smith was scared of playing physical at all coming off that injury

That is currently the weakness of their team. They underperformed in their first four games against poor competition and then really struggles vs UK. Dart was under pressure often and they couldn’t run consistently.

Also the fact that they've gotten production out of 3 T Freshman is a great sign also. I think the three of them will be a terror in a couple years and Davis would coach Stewart into a top 10 draft pick

Corey Raymond is also doing a great job with the Corner Backs. But it's Safety play that's a problem.

Not to make excuses for last years D-Line but they deserve some slack. Jimmy Lindsey, the D-Line coach, left LSU right before training camp started on 8/2/23 due to health issues. Of course coach Lindsay had no choice but to seek medical attention, but this unfortunate situation completely derailed the Defense and special teams all season. It’s almost impossible to find and hire a decent replacement right before the season starts, so CBK & Matt House moved John Jancek from special teams to DL, & Bob Diaco took over special teams in addition to coaching the linebackers. Those last second moves didn’t work out so they brought in coach Pete Jenkins mid year as a band aid. Jimmy Lindsey’s set of circumstances were sad, but it put the team in an almost impossible situation

It’s tempting for the Rant to go with that narrative, that the DL coaches are amazing, rather than admit that the Rant was dead wrong when it criticized Kelly for not doing enough in the portal. (Not directed at you, AB)

yep, that was a huge loss that really showed itself in the Ole Miss loss. Defense looks so much better and improving each week.

The DL has definitly improved and been a big surprise.
Having been to games this year they are undersized which will present a problem vs Bama/TX Am and even OM this year.
They will have to continue to get on their guys early and push upfield.
Also they havent had a true mobile Dual QB(Milroe /Dart) will chealenge them w/o a spy LB as Whit is slower than perk and still gets pushed around/cant bring his guy to ground 1-1...those two giys will show how the DL holds up.
Need them to do well or otherwise it will get ugly as Kiff/Deboar will exploit the LBs/CBs
