She was Wendy in Hook

When I saw that movie as a kid back in 92 or whenever, they had her looking old as frick in that role, and I assumed that was her actual age. As the years went by and she kept appearing in roles looking the same age, I realized she must have had one hell of a makeup artist for Hook.

One of the greats. I enjoyed her in everything.

That gif is appropriate for this thread. But I hated that scene.
She elevated every movie she was in.

Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, was one of the funniest characters in television.

I always forget that Captain Flint is her son.
Outside of the obvious big ones, she was great in Gosford Park and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel as well.

One of the old school true thespian actors/actresses that was an absolute artist. Good in everything.

Hope it wasn't another overdose

Despite her age, she worked her arse off and was good in everything she did even if the movie sucked.

Not only she was a fantastic actor, she was a forthright person. If Maggie Smith didn't like you... she let you know in no uncertain terms. If she did like you, you also knew by a lot of kind comments and gestures.
She's one of the dying breed of old fashioned actors. They always put out their best effort, even if the production was a complete turd. Oh, they might let you know if you were a director or producer if the production was a turd, but they'd do their best to make the actual product look good.
I'm sure she made a butt load of cash, but she's one of those old school working actors. "Did the check clear? Well, lets get down to business then."

Ain’t that the truth. I’m not sure if I’v ever anticipated dialogue for a show like I did for that character. Some of her lines you had to think about but there wasn’t one wasted.

She was only 55 when she shot Hook. That's absolutely insane.
