My pool is gunite. 12 years old. Light in the shallow end and deep end. Recently my shallow end light went out. I called a pool store in BR to quote me on replacing the shallow end light with the same white LED and also to quote me on if I opted to upgrade both shallow and deep end lights to multi color option.
I was told that I have pentair led white lights and that there’s no bulb replacement option. My quote to replace just the shallow end light is $1600 and to upgrade both lights to color is $3665. Holy sticker shock. Is this correct? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Did they say what comes with the color change option? My parents have a pool that the bulbs change colors with the pool light switch depending on how many times you flip the switch up/down. I'm guessing part of that cost is upgrading your light activation switch to whatever controls the color changing LEDs.

I am not surprised at the price given that whatever your pool cost to build 12 years ago is probably double the price for absolutely no reason other than "inflation."

That is probably an accurate price. You can find the lights online and they are pricey especially if you have a long run for the wires. When they go out you have to change the whole unit, wiring and all. I had three burn out after only two years. Luckily they were deemed defective and the manufacturer covered the replacement. They will supposedly get 10k hour.

If in BTR Area, call Dustin Cassels Pools.
(225) 261-2250. He's helped me out with pools, for years.

I had the old fiber optic style single light in my deep end. They changed it out to a led for $800.00. It's the multi color using the switch method mentioned above.

They are expensive as hell, i had to replace mine one time my niece kicked off the wall swimming laps and cracked the lense. This was prior to 2020 so there is no telling what they cost now.

Only thing I can offer is that when I had a pool the light went out, I bought a light and installed it myself. It was not a very difficult job to change the light.

ETA: I did not replace just the bulb, I replaced the entire light.

not sure about anyone elses but mine is just a housing that is waterproof that holds a bulb. mine has enough slack in the power cable to pull it up out of the pool to work on it. There is a lens that has a gasket on it to keep water out of the housing where the bulb is screwed in.

here is the bulb I bought. you just flick the switch to set the colors or get into the mode where is changes colors intermittently.

If your housing is a pentair I have a really hard time believing that you cant find aftermarket parts that are a fraction of the cost like this.

Pretty sure this is nothing generic or non-proprietary on my Pentair Microbrites

They're about 1.5" across and I think sold with the wire "baked" in

I have Pentair Intellibrites and they're not cheap to replace. I wish I knew of an alternative.

I have six lights, replaced a few already and now only two work out of six. I've tried to get them warrantied with no luck. If you're having a pool built do not use intellibrites.

Yes. It's not just the bulb. Housing and wiring. I'm facing the same issue

I have same lights…I had the same price quote. I’ll be watching this thread with hopes on a money saving fix.
