At first I thought this was about the new Chi-Chi's (no relation) that just opened on Freret St.

I liked their chimichanga but it's been 30 years since I had it so I don't know if I still would like it

As a toddler I would eat the “malt” (mild) salsa and guacamole and then ask for the check before the entrees got to the table

Driving through that area where chi-chi’s, el Chico, Cortana mall, fun fair park etc were still gives me a case of longing nostalgia

First place I ever had chips and salsa. Probably the first Mexican place I ever went to, come to think of it.

Is it widely known that Chi-Chi’s is Mexican slang for tittays? It’s Mexican Hooters.

Story I heard was it was named for its founder’s wife, who apparently had some big uns.

I have several good memories of the Chi Chi’s in Baton Rouge from my sophomore year in college. A big group of us went there once, and I had a first date there with a really nice girl.

My buddy and I used to always order the Yucatan.

I was disappointed when that place closed.

Didn't know they were still around as I haven't heard the name in years. The first "Mexican" food I ever had. Living in Madison, WI the options were limited, to say the least. Former Green Bay Packer WR Max McGee was a co-founder.

Same, Oakwood Mall location in New Orleans in the 80s. I remember not wanting to go and then I was fed chips and salsa, and they kept bring more. Great memories.

Man, thank you for bringing back a favorite memory for me as a kid,

Grew up pretty rough so never left Houma until I was almost in junior high…local rec league football coach took a bunch of us to watch Saints play Miami in NOLA and after game, he took us to ChiChi’s…fried ice cream and chimichanga…felt like a million bucks that day.

Also got to sit next to Steve Korte’s family and they bought us snacks…it was awesome.

Ate with family at the Baton Rouge location after an LSU football game circa 1982. The windows were down for most of the 60 mile drive home.

I always orders the Cancun, which IIRC, was a seafood enchilada with the fake crab and shrimp.

I liked it at the time, but I wonder how it would taste to me now?!
