I feel MUCH better now than I did after the game. We left so many points on the board and had some chances to knock them out. Few observations:

1. Defense is not as bad as we think and they showed signs of growth and effort which was lacking last year. Let Baker continue to coach these players up.

2. Offense has the potential to be lethal. Once Caden gave us a running game, it was a completely different offense. If Caden started against USCw we probably win by 14

3. Overall it was a tough win on the road in the SEC. Gameday was there and I’m telling you that place was rocking. Their fans fully expected to win before and during the entire game. That’s a good team.

We get two cupcake games and a bye to get the young players and veterans ready for Ole Miss. That is three crucial weeks. Ole Miss gets to visit USCw while we prep for them, win that game and look out….

This is what I'm talking about, some positivity! I agree, setting up for a great one with Ole Miss.

Offense left a lot of points on the field.

Should have had over 50 vs USCe

If you are going to acknowledge that having Durham makes LSU a completely different offense, you also have to acknowledge that LSU faced a completely different offense in the 2nd half when Sellers was out. But I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment.

Honestly, the most concerning stat that I heard was that Saturday was the 9th game under Brian Kelly in which we have started the game down by double digits. That's a major problem.

I didn’t know a noon game could have that much energy but it was an awesome atmosphere for sure.

There was a ton of positives from the game on Saturday and people are right to think that we went into a hostile environment at 11am and won a road game in the SEC by a team that looks to be good this year.

Having said that, we were super fricking sloppy and undisciplined in a lot of areas. That shouldn't be ignored either.

This is what most casuals are missing. And to be the fair, the 30k foot view statistics aren't that pretty, but you can see it if you squint.

-DL is much better than last year and not nearly the liability we thought ( at least so far). DEs have been the biggest pleasent surprise on defense IMO.

-LBs are finally settling on correct positions and personnel. The flaws/breakdowns are cochable and fixable. What we saw out of HP7 this past week could be him turning the corner.

-Secondary shuffling is still sorting itself out. Zy at CB is the cornerstone we can build around.

-Virtually all of the position coaches and the DC are new, none of these groups are anywhere close to a finished product.

-Young bucks are flashing all over. Stamps, Allen, Spears, Woodland, Breaux, Jackson, Reliford, and Womack will be huge contrubutors to this defense for the forseeable future.

For me, it's just a question of WHEN not IF this defense becomes something the program can hang it's hat on again. Could be as early as mid October. We're staying home for the next month with two easy Ws and a bye leading up to Ole Miss. That's like a whole Fall camp!

But it could also take longer and we don't see real growth until 25, hard to say.......

AGREED! In support of your data-points -

1. DEF had multiple new players in the lineup, many in new positions, and got better as the game unfolded: Shand, Perkins, Weeks, Z. Alexander, Ryan and Spears.

2. Caden was the spark, hopefully it continues. Also the impact of Anderson at WR was huge, along with the continued performance of Lacy & Daniels. Add Hilton to that group and that gives you 4 tough guys to cover.

3. Another road game in the tough SEC - see UGA score. Never take these games for granted.

This team's best FB is still ahead of them. This is a GREAT week to show improvements and get another W.

You would have never thought that reading this board going into this game. The posters on here said they were awful and barely better than a junior college team.

I agree with your observations, but it concerns me that during the 6 or 7 month offseason, Kelly has hardly anything figured out with his team, and it takes putting his team in a difficult spot early on to be in consideration for the final 12 at the end of the regular season.

This is not the kind of path that elite teams take.

Sure but we were defending Sellers pretty well in the 2nd quarter already.

This is the biggest default excuse and copout statement everyone outside of LSU wants to make without acknowledging that outside 3 bigs plays, we were figuring him out. We were getting to him more and more, hence his injury.

He's not injured if out defense wasn't getting to him and getting the 3 and outs we have been desperately missing. Out D stepped up.

What's clear is, Sage can't be counted out to make an open field tackle. If that is Spears or Allen, I feel better about our chances of not having that Sellers run go to the house. Sage never breaks down in front the runner.

Give our team more credit and theirs less when talking about the outcome and what could have beens. Sure, they could have been better after the injury, but so could we.

I rlly love the cb duo of stamps and zy now that he’s healthy. Both gives us length, physicality and competitive coverage

It’s called the Tiger “Rant”. A forum for fans to express their opinions. LSU has not exactly looked very good, so far.
Some fans go overboard with their criticism, and others post their legit frustrations.

Maybe you need to back away from this forum if it bothers you.

I believe our offense, particularly Nuss, needs to improve…

But he is what we have

I sit right in the middle of the "oh no LSU sucks" and the "we are perfectly fine" crowds. i realize BK wants to build LSU through recruiting, so therefore i will have patience in some regard. I also wont discredit the loss of the DL coach last year right before the season, so lack of leadership and development in that room, and no active recruiting at that time. but the coaching side of that issue has been fixed and now we are hopefully getting the big guys out of high school for bulk and depth.

i think if we show some patience, this staff, with the recruiting its doing, LSU will be top tier in the coming years, and sooner rather than later.

i don't like the season opening losses. i don't like the slow starts. but i do think the fact we never give up in games, or throw in the season, shows the leadership on the staff and in the locker room.... just hoping we can start showing improvement with consistency, but again, i also realize we are lacking in elite talent\depth in some areas.
