Picked it up a few weeks ago and I cannot put this game down. 3 weeks in and I’m discovering new features and opportunities every hour I’m in the game.
I know this game was heavily critiqued when it came out but man it has come a long way.

The internet historian video about the "engoodening" of this game is classic.
They really did make up for how bad it was in the beginning.

I'm tempted to go back to it.
It was as disappointing as it was made out to be at the beginning. I've gone back a few times but it just kept feeling boring.
The latest features apparently make it a completely different game.

Absolutely. I didn’t play before the “Worlds” update but have listened/read about the differences and I can definitely see why people who played before would think it’s boring.

It's great to pick up between games. I've put 30ish hours into this year after abandoning at launch.
Just following the main story and exploring a bit. The procedural generation makes the worlds a bit boring to explore.
However it's still really fun to find unique worlds and give them a look around.
It's worth it's on sale or gamepass for sure.

Yea me and a few friends played it recently and we’re all big fans.

I have played it off and on for several years going back to the early updates from terrible to passable.
What always happens that drives me away is the repetitive nature of the procedurally generated star systems was the no longer random chance but guaranteed constant spawn of multiple aggro npc's disrupting any and all other activities in said system. Jump to any other and the same repeats. It gets to the point of running low on fuel as they aggro so frequently and in such numbers that a player can't even shoot asteroids for fuel.
It just becomes stale and repetitive after about the 5th system jump per play session. The ai is less than dull to the point the only "difficulty" is in the numbers and constancy.
Let's not get into yet another planet with storms every 5 minutes that you have to stop, take shelter, wait.

Bought it at launch and played it obsessively for the first 3 months - warts and all.
I need to dive back in and give it a shot again. I just don't find myself playing the PS4 like I did when I was single.
My wife and I will do the Supermassive horror titles in their anthology series, but that's about it.

I downloaded it again last week for the first time in a couple years. It's kinda overwhelming how much more there is to do now.
That being said, I spent the majority of my afternoon yesterday getting settled back in and I'm having a blast.

I also just started playing it for the first time a week or two ago. Quite addicting at the moment.

I’ll have to watch this. Hello Games definitely earned by respect with how they supported this game. Turned it into something really good without bs micro transactions all over it.
