Little disappointed in Kaleb Jackson thus far, but still bullish

His upside is still tremendous and I truly believe we’re going to need him to contribute substantially for us to do anything great this year.
Durham should be #1 but I wonder if KJ doesn’t make hay as the guy we lean on later in games (esp if we have the lead). Particularly in 2nd halves when we’re facing tired defenses, KJ is 100% NOT the guy you want to try and tackle at that point.
His skill set as a bruiser could be perfect for such a role. Could also provide a shot in the arm to an OL (which hasn’t been great so far) that would love nothing more than to assert some dominance w a downhill run game.
Think of like a “salt the game away” type back. Control ball, kill clock, extend drives, keep D rested off the field. Les miles had these kinda guys for days.

He’s an I formation old time thumper. I’m not sure anyone does that anymore ???

Jackson is not a bruiser, he can but that's not his game, he runs with speed and power. The coach has not given him a package to highlight him yet.

dude is running directly into defenders and going down immediately after being touched.
such a contrast from what we saw last season.

He's in the wrong era, the dude immediately looks for contact as soon as he gets the ball instead of finding vision to where the hole might be. He doesnt use any elusiveness to elude a tackle, just wants to run everyone over. This shows up pretty clearly in this metric:
Josh Williams
23 carries; 7 missed tackles forced
Caden Durham
15 carries; 7 missed tackles forced
John Emery Jr.
10 carries; 3 missed tackles forced
Kaleb Jackson
22 carries, 1 missed tackle forced

He immediately went down on contact on a few plays. As opposed to Durham who lowers his pads and keeps driving.

I don't think Sloan is utilizing him correctly with a mixture of the obvious Oline run blocking issues.
I love the Zavion Thomas motion to the backfield inside run. It's been successful every time.

Yeah that’s what I think im seeing to.
I just wonder if later in games when they’re a little gassed (and KJ can get into a rhythm w more touches) that those big hits turn into broken tackles and big gainers.

Correct.

He looks like a different player this yr.
He is the type of back you have to keep feeding and give it to him off tackle. He isn't great going between the tackles yet
I have faith that he will get it figured out. I think we all anointed hin to quickly.

Haven't seen this yet. Hope I do.

He doesn’t break tackles and has really bad vision. Worth noting that in his press conference today, BK was highlighting Durham’s vision and said that it’s a skill set that can’t be taught.

He’s 10-15lbs heavy and still having trouble seeing what’s going on around him - with patience. He's still real raw given limited HS play. It’ll come.

That’s probably true too.
As a fan, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching your guy just absolutely truck/run over an opponent. He did that a couple times last year and I think some of us (maybe myself included) deemed him the next Leonard Fournette.

He’s practically runs with his eyes closed, his field vision is so bad. He missed a hole so bad at one point my wife asked why he ran into the lineman’s back instead of cutting upfield. That’s why he’s not breaking tackles or getting loose. He’s running straight into d tackles.

Hoping KJ is just a late bloomer and can eventually contribute

He runs standing up, makes him look non-athletic even though we know he's a beast. Also, shoulders aren't squared when running. Those 2 things are natural in an elite runner, not saying he cannot fix, but 2 things that shouldn't have to be...

Where was JuJu? Did he even play in the game. Our RB choices are very confusing at times.

He got too big and lost his speed and somehow he has no vision
