If any of you fine folks find yourself in Montgomery…

…Filet & Vine has what I think is the best “meat & 3” lunch I’ve had anywhere. We made our annual stop there today on the way back home from the Gulf coast. The fried pork chop, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, black-eyed peas and carrot cake were all on point.

Don't know if/when I'll ever pass through Montgomery but it looks like a cool place.

Will try that. Recently I tried the famous hot dog shop downtown and it was fun. Also the White House meat and three that is maybe an hour south down I-65 and that was decent, maybe not life-changing.
Also, I don't know Montgomery that well, what is considered the "nice" part of town?

Not sure where “the” nice part of town is, but the Cloverdale area where Filet & Vine is located looks to be a very nice area. It’s odd though because it’s nice there, but 2 blocks away is literally the hood.

Agreed. Very nice place, people and food.
More basic, but also needs to be on Montgomery M&3 rotation: Farmers Market Cafe downtown.

THURSDAY
FRIED CHICKEN BREAST
FRIED PORK CHOP
Fried fish
MEATLOAF
ROASTED 1/2 CHICKEN
COUNTRY FRIED STEAK
GRILLED THICK PORKCHOPS
On Thursday, I'd probably just stand in line and stare trying to make up my mind. Or possibly, just order one of everything.

I’ve spent thousands of dollars on beer there. They have a great selection - Corey, the owner’s son, brews his own beer and knows his stuff
And yeah, their meat and three is killer as well

I want to try the M+3. I see that Pannie George's now has a place in Montgomery, along with their place in Auburn. PG's has pretty decent home cooking too.
Back in June, we stopped at Mary Ruth's in Georgiana. It's not far off I-65. It's a small, local place that was quite good for home cooking. We tried it out going to Louisiana, and stopped again coming back.

In my experience, F&V is much better than Pannie George’s.

I'd like to try it. PGs does some things very well, like their fried chicken and their cabbage. The collards have a bit too much sugar in them for my tastes.

Their craft beer selection is legit, too.

I will have to try this place for sure. When I looked on maps to see the location I noticed a pizza joint around the corner called "Can a Brotha Get a Slice"
The pizza looks really good

Went to Montgomery with friends to see what there is to see and spent 3 nights in the riverfront area. There is a lot of effort and money being spent trying to make it a convention and party center with civil-rights era themed museums within easy walking distance.
I suspect that Alabama's congressional delegation has been very generous with our tax money.
The only restaurant that we tried and went back to was Wintzell's Oyster House. It's a small chain franchising out of Mobile.
Initially I was turned off by the canned decor imitating the original Mobile location. Nothing was fancy, but food, table service and bar service were quite enjoyable. Expect sweet tea.

I just looked up the map of where this place is. I've driven through Montgomery numerous times (often wanting to get something "local" to eat) and had no idea there was sort of a nice "Garden District" area right there off where I-65 and I-85 come together. You could certainly never tell from the Interstate.
I will check this place out one time.

The owner of “Can a Brotha Get a Slice” was shot 5 times in his store last week. He is recovering and will be back. I want one of their t-shirts: “the most romantic pizza on earth”!
I guess this brotha wanted more than a slice.
This is literally around the corner from F&V, to repeat another poster that says good part of town is across the street from the hood. Montgomery is funny that way. I lived there for 26 years.

I lived in Montgomery for ten years. The downtown area is a pretty nice area. I never had a bad experience in that city. I found the people to be very nice. Almost every college football fan that I met was an Auburn fan. I found that Montgomery was a Auburn city. I lived in Alex City for two years and that place has a very large Bama following. Montgomery also has a college that is called Auburn at Montgomery. I liked Montgomery but there is no place like home. I lived in in an area that was very close to Troy Highway.
