I think we need to just be honest, since 2019 we are no longer “elite”

Are we good, yea we are good, but we are not elite. We are 4th or 5th in the SEC now and are realistically a #15-20 school year in and year out now. No shame in that. We will still win 8/9 games with the occasional 10 win season and the powers that be are happy with that bc there’s no real scandals and it’s a “clean” program. It’s who LSU football is for the foreseeable future.

The frustration with LSU sports is there's no consistency from year to year. It's either a championship team or a team that's frustrating to watch.

I've seen it with both football and baseball after championship runs, and yes while we had great players leave, we don't seem to have a system in place where we just reload.

Well if we are being honest, we were not elite before 2019. That year was a fluke, lightning in a bottle.

We haven’t been an elite program since 2011. 2019 was an anomaly. BK will just continue the regression. LSU is slowly falling to the has been status

What is your definition of "elite", and what program outside of Georgia meets that criteria of late?

Currently.

Let’s be honest, the 2019 defense overachieved and since then our talent went downhill quickly. We’ve had some guys at QB (obviously), TE and WR, but RB, DL, CB and S have been a void. And our OL has been mid.

I like the way Kelly has recruited and developed. We just aren’t that talented yet. The portal has made everyone think you can turn things around in a season, but that’s not really how it works. Kelly has had to build this thing up from the rubble that O left.

LSU 2003-2007 was really the only "elite" period.

2010-2016 was a run where LSU was "very good" - just about a top 15 team with 2011 thrown in there.

This appears to be the same type of program that got Miles fired, frankly.

Not elite. Just had the most national championships outside Bama. Just had the number 1 offense and another heisman winner last year. Yeah, "not elite". Then who the frick is.

We were elite from the Saban years to the early Miles years. And then 2019. Kelly is just a good coach who doesn’t have what it takes to pull off more than a good win here and there. Not good enough to win 3 or 4 big games in a row to win a championship. Definitely not an elite coach.

If we played cupcakes week 1, the perception of the program would be way different. Two 10-2 seasons.

We just gotta cut out these games

Its not complicated. New QB, new defensive staff, and suspect secondary. We have been a fringe playoff team all off season. This loss wasn't shocking. I hated to lose, but we looked better than last year.

We are on a good path with this staff, now just need to keep this staff in tact.

Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State. In the conversation year after year. A lot of folks simply want LSU to be in that discussion as well. The truth is they aren't.

How many would they with this defense? How many do we win next year if Nuss returns with all the recruits coming in and this years team having the whole season to develop?

We were elite from 2003 through 2012 ish. Since then we have been a good program with a miracle year in 2019. Right now we are about like we were in the late Miles/early Orgeron years.

2019 was an outlier

This program hasn't been elite in well over a decade

I’m sorry but did you think we’ve been elite?

We need to either cut the good games out for week 1, or get a coach who win them.

These 3 and who else? And realistically how often have those conversations been anything other than hype? Bama misses the playoffs. Georgia misses the playoffs. Ohio State has sucked several years. Clemson fell off a cliff. Bama is likely next under Deboring. So really just Georgia? And what if they drop 2 or 3 now that they don't have the cupcake east carrying them?
