You can point at CBK for not taking the points on the first drive, you can point at Lacy for the taunting penalty, you can point at Nuss for not calling a TO when he should’ve, you can point at Will Campell for running his mouth all week and then getting 2 very costly penalties when it was nut cutting time, but the end of the day this loss was on Joe Sloan and his atrocious play calling. Nuss has better arm talent than JD or Burrow, and we didn’t push the ball down the field at all. All of the pass plays were screens or very short to intermediate passes, there were even several 3rd downs where we threw the ball short of the line to gain. It’s almost like he was scared to let Nuss be Nuss and it costs us the game

I’d agree if we hadn’t seen the exact same thing under the last OC. Kelly is the overseer of the offense and the constant with this pattern.

When you are successful throwing to Lacey and Mason, why change up to attempting smash-mouth running? Fine to change things up a bit, but stay with what works.

Who has to make sure Sloan is preparing his unit? We can point to individual units but the fact of the matter is LSU has now lost every single opener under Kelly.

That’s a problematic pattern.

Idk man he threw some ducks last night

The screen to Parker should’ve been a TD but he threw a duck and fricked the rhythm of the play

Sloan did what Kelly told him to do, and it was blatantly obvious in the 2nd half, because it in no way resembled the 1st half at all.

Exactly, after Emery ripped off a couple of runs it should’ve been incorporated into what we were so successful with early on not cause a complete change in the approach.

USC played two safeties all night. They took the deep stuff away and it worked. Had our “best in nation” O line been better, we could have run the ball with success and make them player up more. They never needed to adjust to their game plan.

About the only bad pass he threw all game, but I was at the game and may have missed some of the replays.

Wrong. This is on Kelly. You really think Sloan is calling the offense without input and oversight from Kelly. Dude is a micromanager and all fault lies at his feet.

This is the exact same offense we ran under denbrock for almost a year before kelly finally trusted daniels enough to stop micromanaging. It’s the same offense he ran at ND with Ian book.

The opening half we were using motion and misdirection and hitting guys on designed passes that I haven’t seen us use before. That felt like Sloan. Then Kelly says at halftime “we have to run the ball to win” and voila the second half we just start pounding it into the line. And in his press conference about the only think Kelly didn’t blame for the loss was the emphasis on running the ball in the second half. He said we did that well enough to win the game.

The bad pass to Anderson wasn’t just bad, it likely cost us the game.

But I thought overall Nussmeier looked really good. We just had some unfortunate things happen at the worst times last night

I agree first half looked great. If that was Sloan on his own maybe he should be running the show and Kelly should pack his shite and head back north.

The biggest problem I see is that as annoying as “arm chair coaches” are, it was quite objectively and obviously a problem the plays we were calling. How do you not see the problem in the second half? I get it, the run worked and looked like we were wearing them down, until it didn’t, and we refused to go back to what was making USC look retarded in the first half.

Nussmeier has certain strengths and we needed to exploit those more. He is a good QB and could be great if we let him do his thing.

This isn't how football games work.

It’s like when we had some success with Emery on those runs Kelly though “ok now we can just run it for the rest of the way and get out of here with a win”. What he should’ve done was just continue doing what was working but now with the run game to compliment it. He just gets too tight in these situations which has been the problem in big games his entire career.

I agree Sloan called a dog shite game and literally made sure not to play to our strengths but guess what, we’re stuck with this dude because he might be the biggest reason Bryce is signed here.

You’re actually both right.

The game is bigger than 1 play but if Nuss hits AA we take the lead with less than 2 to play.
