Just saw ‘Trap.’ It is so shockingly bad that it’s frightening! What in the hell happened to M. Night?

He was the next Spielberg. His first movies were classics. Now he’s become horrible!!!! Trap is like a very bad Lifetime movie. Horrible dialog. Very badly directed. The ENTIRE plot is so blatantly nonsensical I’m stunned there are critics that actually gave this POS a positive review.

This is genuinely a shocking mystery on how bad M. Night has become.
I seriously don’t get it.

Sixth Sense came out before the Millennium.

That's a long time to still be holding out hope.

2 things:

1. He made The Lady in the Water, The Happening, The Last Airbender, and After Earth. How can one still be surprised that he makes garbage?

2. It's very hard to imagine Trap is worse than any of those four films, though I haven't seen it.

Spielberg didn’t write Jaws, Indiana Jones, or E.T. What did he write? A.I.

Writing is hard. Almost no one can keep it up. M Night writes all of his own movies, on his own.

List the greatest directors ever, then remove the ones who didn’t write their own movies on their own, that removes 90% of them and you’re left with mostly niche guys

You’re in for a big surprise. This is much worse than those other movies you mentioned. MUCH worse!

Heard it was an excuse just to showcase his daughter singing abilities.

That’s the big twist. The last movie he makes will be the greatest film ever

It was awfully bad given the trailers that revealed much of everything

Spoiler:

And even more so given it all happened in first 45 mins and rest of movie was a fricking waste of time

Double Spoiler:
Everything was revealed in the trailer. WTF was this??????

Never again. I’ll never watch another one of his movies again

I kept waiting for the moment that he wasn’t the guy. It was his shitty wife. Nope . Just him. No great cinematic reveal. what a waste of time movie

M Night pigeon-holed himself into this "every one of my movies has a big twist!" bullshite

So I imagine most of his crap starts with a twist idea, and he works backward from there .... to very little success

I wouldn’t say Trap is in any way a good movie. But it is a very watchable movie even if it’s a nonsensical mess

No it isn’t. Most of those movies had other major issues. Like being slow and boring. Trap is fairly fast paced

I heard a review that said the first 2/3rds of the movie was great and the final 1/3rd ruined it. Any truth to this or did it just suck the whole time?

I think the whole movie was odd. But the first 2/3rds are a single location movie and the rest of the movie is out in the open world.

I will say the ending is so horrifically insulting to ask viewers to believe

I enjoyed the first 2/3rds, but the ending was too drawn out, and not realistic.

I liked Lady in the Water when you realize it's a myth, or fable or folklore that's crossed over into the real world; plus I like anything with Paul Giamatti

Signs is my favorite by a long shot

Old had one of the better twist endings that I've seen from him in a while but the script and acting was awful. My wife watched it recently and said she thinks it's because they had to compress the timing of the people realizing what was happening to them, which fits into the entire premise so maybe she's right.

Watchers was way too predictable but not poorly made.

The dialogue in his good movies is trash. It is impressive once you think about it.

I actually find most of his movies fairly watchable, and enjoyable, for what they are, but I just finished this one tonight and I’d have to agree with OP here, it’s pretty awful.

I think my main issue with it is that the entire first half of the movie takes place at a really shitty Pop star concert, and the teenage girls that go with it. To have that as a setting is really unbearable. Also, the daughter sucks.
