Why do pickup trucks in LA have seven digit license plates?

Been wondering this forever. I remember several years ago, the state went from a seven digit license plate system to six digits (3 characters, space, 3 characters). Initially, it seemed like vehicles from B.R. specifically were exempt from the six digit system; and now the only vehicles I see anywhere that have seven characters are pickup trucks. Sorry not the most interesting topic but it's been bugging me for years.

Leader in the clubhouse for random thread of the day. I don't see anybody beating this one.

Little known regulation:
6 numbers, 6 inch wang
7 numbers, 7 inch wang
etc.
My plate has 4 numbers.

If the lift/level kit is over 4" they have to have 7 digits.

Boredom can inspire genius. We don’t have enough boredom in current society. Creativity, inspiration, and questions about license plates suffer because of our overstimulation.

To be fair, when thinking about the one and only place on earth that could possibly have the answer, it's this page...

Most would be just fine with a mid-size Ranger type truck.
We all have toys to haul.
WTF is this?

Because we can afford them. Only poors drive sedans.

I had a truck back in the day with a 6 digit plate. (It’s what the DMV gave me when I bought it.). I was coming home from offshore through the thriving metropolis of Pollock, LA and the local PD pulled me over.
You could see it on his face, he thought he bagged his 1st grand theft auto charge. When he asked why I had a 6 digit plate instead of a 7, I told him that’s what the DMV gave me when I bought it. He said “well they gave you the wrong one!” I replied, “Has anyone ever won an argument with the DMV?” He laughed and let me go.
Best part of this story was my license was suspended at the time, but he never asked for it and I didn’t automatically divulge those details.
I know, CSB.

In 2016 they changed AAA 000 to the new format 000 AAA.

Probably will be my next truck now that my kid hauling days are nearing an end. I use my bed a fair amount but I'd be fine in a Colorado or Tacoma these days.

I noticed that if it starts with Z it’s always a white driving.
