I have a pretty good job offer that would take me to Iowa City, Iowa. I have never been there, but have heard it is pretty nice. Just wondering if any of you baws have lived there or spent time there.

Would it be a nice place to move?
How is the food scene?
Fishing?
Hunting?

It's Iowa not Alaska.
Few days in January, February sub zero.

Otherwise, get some decent clothes.
If cold and windy can hike etc in woods if want.
Decent fishing, good hunting from what I'm told (I don't hunt).
Solid Demographics.
College town, so likely good restaurants etc.

Probably low cost of living.

I'd go for it.
Especially if single.

There is very little at all in Iowa but massive amounts of farm land.

I lived in Ottumwa but went to Riverside Casino just south of Iowa City all the time. Nice city. Cold AF during the winter but summers are great. Cedar Rapids is just north of it and is also a very nice city.

I have family in the area. The quality of life in much of the Midwest is pretty underrated if you don't mind the cold weather.

Certainly a decent area to raise a family in. It's probably not all that exciting for a young, single guy.

Was living in Salt Lake and recently moved to Texas. I can take winter as long as I get a good summer.

I did a Winter in Utah.

No problem, you’re in Utah.

The same weather set in Iowa City would not be good.

you might like it

That is information which somewhat alters my thinking/recomendation

People are mentioning the cold your user name has Utah in it
Iowa cold and Utah cold are different it's not as nice as Utah up in the higher elevation it's much cleaner air less humidity Iowa is very windy and the wind is not refreshing like it might be in the mountains then you also are on lsu board which makes me think you have southern connections food might be a challenge it's a real meat potatoes farm food German /Scandinavian Culture

but at 50,,, married

you might like it if your wife doest hate it

I could be happy in Iowa at this point in life. I probably wouldn't have loved it at 23. My mom grew up maybe 35 miles from Iowa City.

I can’t imagine it having anything to offer other than being a college town.

I’ve done business there.

Nice town. ACT brought in people from all over the world. That has likely changed with the demise of standardized testing.

It's a nice college town. You could certainly do worse, but the weather is something you'd have to get used to.

If you're not a Hawkeye fan it will likely make you hate them but that will happen in any small/medium major college town. It is small enough where I don't think there's really a district that isn't college-y, if that makes sense.
