Rolling Stone: Can the Best of Star Wars Survive the Worst of Its Fans?

Before Star Wars can have another successful show, some vocal parts of fandom have to reckon with what they really want out of the franchise
quote:
But like most popular culture, the Star Wars fandom, especially online, has become inundated with loud, conservative, and in some cases, incredibly racist voices. While Disney has never said these voices are directly impacting what shows get made, the vocal minority of Star Wars devotees keep limiting what they’ll accept as true Star Wars. These fans say they’re fighting for Star Wars’ future. But if their endless fantasy world can’t accept any stories that they don’t recognize — some of the self-professed biggest fans in all the worlds could be closing themselves off to any future at all. What is crystal (kyber?) clear is that before Star Wars can have another successful show, the loudest voices online need to realize the Star Wars they want to return to never existed in the first place. Will the real Star Wars please stand up?
quote:
However the low audience scores, angry YouTube rants, and long Reddit threads can really boil down to one question: who determines what’s real Star Wars? First as a film, and then a trilogy, Star Wars established early on to viewers that even when they were focused on a set of powerful twins and a dark Empire, shite was going down on literally every other planet. This freedom has allowed for endless story arcs across decades. But while opportunities have been endless — the patience of fans hasn’t.
quote:
But what it seems like extreme fans don’t realize is that they’re creating a space where even the truest of Star Wars fans still wouldn’t want to participate. Let’s be real. If you thought you could make the next great Star Wars iteration, but you knew that your project could be lambasted simply for casting a person of color, is that where you would invest your time? Or if you were an actor of color choosing between two roles you believed in, would you pick the one that came with an almost guaranteed hate campaign? The Star Wars fans clamoring for a return to the originals aren’t just talking nonsense, they’re ruining their chances to see the franchise they love grow in any meaningful way.

I doubt this author has ever seen the original Star Wars.
I’ll leave this here.

A consumer product analogy would be if Ford Motor Company would start making vehicles that only went in reverse then called consumers racist for wanting the vehicles to drive forward like they used to.

Disney shills, I won’t name names but you know who.
Disney shill -“if you don’t like the show don’t watch”
Also Disney shills- “why didn’t you watch the show, you’re the reason it was canceled racist”

I see a lot of people, both fans and media, having meltdowns over this. Pretty funny for some mediocre show.

The problem with their woke gay agenda is they want to lift these “inclusive” characters above everything that came before them
Yoda and Plagueis have no business being used in this shite. If they allowed her to make a second season they would irrevocably ruin the IP

Or...or...call me crazy, make good shite. More stuff like Rogue One, less stuff like Obi Wan.

less stuff like Obi Wan
All they had to do was show Vader force stopping a ship from taking off and him and Obi-Wan fighting. None of the other useless shite and you got a masterpiece.

Rolling Stone is a political magazine with shitty taste in music.

Yeah I’m not reading that Rolling Stones nonsense.
Disney is going to have to decide who they want to cater to: People who have been fans of it for decades or Johnny come latelies who don’t care about the franchise unless it’s used a vessel to espouse their political and social views.
Basically Disney needs to chose between dependable dollars or they can chase fickle nickels.

I lost some respect for Ewan McGregor after Obi Wan. Then I saw Birds of Prey and I realized I never should have had respect for him to begin with.

Lol. Hollywood wokeness destroys Star Wars (and a bunch of other franchises) but the problem is the fans. Who do they blame when the spiral into irrelevancy reaches the bottom?

I remember when Rolling Stone actually mattered and wasn't just a terrible blog.

It’s going to be cool for me in a couple of years when I purchase the rights to Star Wars for a couple of grand in a liquidation sale. Here lies the dude that owns Star Wars will definitely be going on my tombstone.
