What is up with people coming and fishing right on top of me?

I was the first person to my spot on the beach Saturday and had five different boats come fish with in 30 yards of me throughout the morning. Each time one would approach it would shut the bite down. I could throw my top water bait within 10 feet of their boat. I’d never do that to someone. Wtf

I'm routinely surprised by the people I share the planet with. Makes me wonder if they are aliens...or maybe I'm the alien?

I had the same issue for the first time in years yesterday.

Was slaying trout in Lake Catherine. Some boats come by and try to respectfully get in on the bite. No big deal.

Then a baby blue blackjack comes right on top of us and started casting exactly where we are catching fish. The definition of potlicking. I was on a friends boat instead of mine so I let him “handle” the situation which he did not do.

Moral of the story is, only fish in your boat. To the guy in the Blue Blackjack, you’re a bitch. Next time I see you out there I’m going to buzz you real close.

YEEEEEARS ago I was fishing east Timbalier area, typical summer day, boats here and there, basically scattered. Bite turned on in our boat and the closest boat comes motoring over and tosses his anchor right where we were casting. I stared in disbelief, didn't say a word.... we continued casting into the spot, only to find it landing in his boat....one guy starts yelling at us, but was soon put in his place by one of his "friends" in the boat with him, don't know exactly what all was said, but they left....

What's up with common courtesy? If I'm kayak fishing a row of docks I pull in my lines and go way around any dock that has people fishing on it. I fish from my dock sometimes and people do the same for me.

You don't have to stay 100 yards back but throwing on top of people is an a-hole move.

TLDR; some fishermen have no common courtesy

Had to do something similar this spring in GI. We were pulling up to a spot with 3 other boats and we were taking the open corner of a piece of structure. We shut down the big motor a couple hundred yards away to troll in. Boat with 4-5 guys on it that had been about a mile behind us comes in on plane within about 50 yards of the same corner we are headed to. I bounced my cork off the side of their boat. One of the guys in the back got the message and convinced the guy in the front to pick another spot.

I'll take the bait. No one thinks they own the water, but if you get within casting distance of a boat that is already fishing a spot, you're the idiot.

Couple weeks ago in GI, pulled up to a spot before daylight and there was a boat positioned where we wanted to be. Took a less desirable spot that was well outside of his casting range and fished the other direction. 20 min later, guy pulls up right in between us right where the other boat was casting. Dude was pissed but he didn't say anything.

Where did he say he owned the water? He said common courtesy.

Do you know the difference or are you just a backwoods piece of shite who thinks they deserve the right to fish anywhere they want regardless of someone is there already or not??

Let's put it this way for you: If you're hunting public land and you're in a tree in and area that you've scouted throughout the summer and have a great mature buck that comes through most every day.

Opening morning you set up. 15 minutes later some dumbass comes and sets up in the tree right next to you. He's 15 feet from you. The deer comes through on his side and he shoots the deer before you get the chance.

You don't own the land. Are you mad?

It's not a shite take. It's called speckled trout fishing in south LA. If you are at a popular spot there are going to be boats all over. If you are not capable of catching fish around other boats you can always go redfish the marsh

Found the potlicker. I can catch fish around other boats, but I can't continue to catch them when the other boats move into the area where I am casting my line.

Been doing it for decades. There is no excuse for what the boats this past weekend did. none.

Just a really stupid and idiotic one.

Common courtesy. Not so common anymore.

I like to fish on a huge reservoir here in North Texas. It really makes me shake my head when I would fish from the bank and a boat would come down the bank and basically cast by my feet.

The funniest experience I had like that was one morning I was out before sunrise. Totally dark, fishing at a spot about 1/4 mile from the biggest boat launch. I see a boat’s lights coming towards me and they drop the trolling motor and start heading right for me. I could see the face of one guy looking at his FF screen and he told the other guy “look at all the fish!” They were maybe 8-10 feet from me but had no idea I was there. I said “Good morning” in a normal speaking voice and I think the voice from the darkness freaked them out. They apologized and said they’d move on but I told them it was a public lake and they could fish where they wanted. They did the right thing and moved on.

Goodat would have sat there and fished on top of you. He's cool with that sort of thing.
