The Greater New Orleans-Jefferson Parish Recreation Department Little League baseball team is one win away from making history.
The GNO-JPRD team is representing Louisiana in the Little League Southwest Region Tournament in Waco, Texas. On Monday, it defeated Texas East 6-5 to advance to the region championship game for the first time.
GNO-JPRD will face the Texas West team at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the championship game, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Is this a different program than the Eastbank team?

Girard playground is the only undefeated team left at the Dixie Majors WS. What they do to keep their rec leagues so good over there?

allow the kids to come back and just play the 1 year to try and go to world series. many other leagues require you play the prior year to be eligible for all stars. plus many of the very prominent travel ball coaches in the area are also involved with the rec leagues coaching the all star teams

Lots of leagues let them come back. Its just crazy to me how much better JPRD is than say, baton rouge, lake charles, or lafayette, in rec ball.
I know they let them change playgrounds on a whim for DYB. That, plus population makes it extremely difficult for the small towns in the state to compete with them.

I believe it is. It seems most of the JPRD East / West teams compete to go to the Dixie Boys World Series.

My brother coaches some rec teams for his son/younger kids (9 year olds) in NOLA area.
I guess they have some teams in the rec league that are somehow basically travel teams playing rec as well. It’s wild hearing that from Florida where Rec is basically depleted by that age for travel ball but I love hearing that in some places you can actually have a a solid rec league.

Sad to say but one of the kids parents has been insufferable on social media. The kid seems like a good kid but damn if I want them to lose just to shut up the parent

quote:Yes. According to some on this board, this team is mostly made up of west bank kids. I'm still confused as to why they play under the "Jefferson Parish Recreation Department" name when their entire border is in Orleans Parish.

But yes, entirely different organization.

Are they representing Louisiana or Sweden since they pay more?

quote:The way the actual JPRD team is formed is by playing Dixie Youth park ball, making the all star team for your specific park, playing an all star circuit that lasts about 3-4 weeks, then the parish takes the best of each all star team to form the JPRD all star team.
I believe it is. It seems most of the JPRD East / West teams compete to go to the Dixie Boys World Series.
It is an entirely separate entity than the LL org. It's also why I don't understand why this team is under the JPRD name.

There is a joke about Karr in here somewhere.

lafayette has had times where it is good, AP was good last year but Lake Charles and lafayette are just not getting the kids back from travel. Kids are focused on HS and do not want to play by the LL rules that frankly...suck. i mean the field is the size 8 years olds play on. the rules are extremely antiquated.

do we have a roster of this LL team?
Posted on 8/6/24 at 10:14 am to Major Dutch Schaefer
Reece Roussel is a Sr in HS now, damn time flies

quote:A few years back I worked at Traction and had a Lake Charles dad tell me they played the absolute minimum amount of required LL games because they hated it so much. They just wanted to go to Williamsport. It was just their travel team that they played with year round in USSSA that would be selected for the LL all star team.

Lafreniere park Pilney league baby! I came back home recently and was shocked to see no baseball fields at the park now all soccer fields. Guess that’s why we all went to Miley as we got older

South Lake Charles is trying to implement travel kids back into rec. They have a decent plan in place that will start this coming season.

Any team that wants to even have a chance to win just about anything in Allstars does this.
The state DYB Majors tournament recently had 4 teams that had mostly travel ball kids and 4 with few to none. The 4 with travel ball kids finished 1-4.
I just dont get how JPRD has enough kids to win in multiple REC leagues. LL, DYB, etc. all in the same year with the same age kids. Girard's 12U coaches will tell you the best team they played so far was Lakeshore in District.
Hell, Girard's 10U team is one of 3 left at the DYB W.S. right now. They played Lakeshore in the State Finals.
