We have a 12 yr old German Shepherd whose hips are beginning to weaken. She receives cosequin in the AM with her food and had been receiving Rimadyl. Before we ask the vet to up the dose of Rimadyl, wanted to ask the OT if they had an alternative to recommend.

You could ask the vet if they know of anywhere nearby that offers hydrotherapy. I've known some people who've had good results with it in conjunction with meds for their pups.

Thanks. We move into a home with a pool later this month. Will see how she does.

Our vet suggested CBD oil
I went to a health foods store & they had a bottle formulated for oil
My dog didn’t like it so I didn’t force it on her

Sounds similar to a swollen ankle. According to that post

Rimadyl is nasty stuff, we gave it to our three legged lab. Ur on the right track to find an alternative.

Have a 6 yr old Shep that I have had x rayed, he has hip dysplasia in one hip. His frame is out of whack and causes him to wear down his toe nails to nubs on his right rear paw. I dread the day that you are facing now. Have been giving him Dasuquin tablet and 4 salmon pills everyday to help his joints. He doesn’t show any signs of pain yet and still runs like the wind.

Keep us posted on what you do.

CBD treats and glucose treats.

I've seen both work well

My vet recommended galiprant for long term usage in my lab with arthritis, but he stopped having issues when I started giving him phycox. I now only use galiprant when he’s worked his butt off.

My situation is different though, mine was 5 when he started having issues.

We have a 12 year old GSD and just got her the second Librela shot today. It seems it makes it easier for her to move around and she seems to feel better. $98 a shot but it does look like it helps.

The Librella shot works wonders, but also has some side effects. It works well as a hail mary drug when you're running out of options related to arthritis. It's about $100/shot but Zoetis has a rewards program online that saves a few bucks.
