Great timing. We need a good recession and glad it's happening before the election.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say this isn’t just going to last a week. There’s a shite ton of things dragging the market down. It’s not exactly primed for a quick turn around.

The current generation has never experienced what is about to happen in the US economy … nor are they adequately prepared for it. A look at current credit card debt illustrates the danger.

Sitting on some cash, trying to decide how much I buy on the way down.
Prob DCA and put in same amount every day the market is down 2%+

I've been preaching that sermon for months now. If we get a high UE event, we're well and truly fricked as GDP growth has been almost completely dependent on consumer debt creation for the last year or so. With so many consumers at such high levels of CC debt (with such high servicing costs), a high UE event would cause lots of delinquencies as consumers began missing servicing payments.
If we get a rash of defaults, the economy comes to a screeching halt as suddenly many consumers lose access to the debt creation which has kept the economy going (as they have been trying to offset the extra costs from high inflation onto the backs of their credit cards).
Upside: deflation
Downside: being in an environment where deflation happens

I welcome deflation if it means getting rid of POS machines that automatically bring up the tip option.

If you're more than 5yrs from retirement, this will just be a bleep on the radar.
Stay focused, contribute on the way down.

If the fed makes emergency rate cuts, then you could see some short term gains.
If they do not, there will continue to be some sell off and you should wait.
Smart money, based on how the fed has acted over the last 18 months, says wait a while for the bottom.

True.
I've been saying that these youngsters will soon spend less time worrying about being misgendered because they will be too busy worrying about their next meal and finding a dry spot under a bridge.
This market was so perfectly primed for a meltdown that I'm shocked that so few saw it coming.
Record Highs, AI Hype/Hysteria, Election 3 months away and potential for 2020 type chaos, Wars, Middle East Chaos, Trump Assassination Attempt.
There were a million reasons to sell and not many reasons to buy.
But when you express that opinion all you get attacked.

I would average your way in and not jump in with both feet.
in the .com crash the Nasdaq dropped 70 percent.
Things may not be cheap yet.
Good Luck.

Exactly this. This opportunity is amplified even more in Bitcoin which has dropped an order of magnitude more than the Dow.
